Thinking about getting a Mosin but would need a place to shoot it. Are there any public ranges in the Bloomington/Normal area? I'm near Chicago and all I've heard of is the range in Wisconsin that seems to be expensive unless I'm remembering wrong and "the pit" but I have no idea what that is. Thanks.

"McMiller Sports Center is closed at the present time. We are sorry for the inconvience."

Still reading, not sure what it means yet but the guys in WI-Hometown don't seem terribly concerned about it...yet

Willow Slough in IN. It is FREE to shoot. No handguns, unless you have a CCW permit. They have a shotgun range, an archery range (i think), 25, 50 and 100 yard range. Paper targets only. No rapid fire. Open from 8am-4pm, Wed to Sun I think. Willow Slough and Buffalo Range are virtually the same distance from me, and I live right at 294 and 55. Did I mention it's FREE?

The Bristol range is just across the border in Wisconsin, about 1 hour north of Chicago (less than 1 hour when the road construction finishes up).

It's a good range and I like going there. The rifle range is 25 yard, 100 yard, and 200 yard. They have enclosed benchrest stations too.

The one in WI looks and sounds great. The pit is a great place but they dont allow you to wear your pistol in a holster. The prices at the range in WI looks great and they have a 300 yard range. I am not sure about IN but I know I can carry when I cross the border.

Bristol does look nice but the single load rule bothers me...yeah I could just take 20 magazines with a single round I guess..

Nonsense, put a mag in, lock the bolt open, drop a round in there, release bolt, pull the trigger, rinse and repeat. That's how the high power shooters do it. It's not "that" bad to do, but I refuse to go to bristol for this reason, not to mention it's $30 for non-members
Link Posted: 9/17/2009 12:05:45 PM EST
Yeah the $30.00 is high, since I can go to buffalo and have full mags, but something more then a 100 yards is nice now and then..

What range in WI are you referring to when meaning to expensive? RCLRC?

The only one in WI that I knew of when I posted it was the one in Bristol. The one is Sycamore sounds good since I have friends in that area. Do you know if they are opened year round or are they closed for the winter?

Sycamore sounds interesting, within an hour's drive for me. What type of ranges do they have available to the public on the weekends? Also, anyone know the fee to shoot there?

Thanks

Its $10

100 yds, 50 yds, 25yds, and 25 feet outdoors.

There is also a trap range but I've never really shot over there.
