TACTICAL CARBINE RIFLE
Upcoming Dates: August 5-6 Reedsburg WI SLR15 Rifles were recently featured as the SWAT Magazine March 2006 cover story. The Carbine Rifle is becoming more popular in the urban setting due to its great accuracy capabilities, and generally it is easier to shoot for most people due to its lack of recoil. This lack of recoil, combined with greater accuracy, make it a favorite among shooters. At the end of this course attendees will have confidence that they can shoot at something and hit it, and not be intimidated by recoil. Students will learn proper foundations, maintenance, employment, ammunition selection, mechanics and manipulation. This course is designed to hone basic fundamentals while teaching individual tactics and techniques. Movement shooting will be added and stressed. Students will deal with a multitude of different targets at varying distances, and learn to shoot from cover and concealment from twelve-plus different shooting positions. Multiple targets will challenge even the experienced operator. Proficiency will be stressed, as well as reloads, and malfunction clearing. Cost: $250 STUDENT MATERIALS: (Minimum Suggestion) 1. Tactical Carbine Rifle & 3-magazines (AR15/M16, Mini-14/30, HK’s, Etc) 2. 1000 rounds of Carbine Ammunition (minimum) 3. Handgun with holster & 200 rounds. Handgun Ammunition 4. Looks like I'm in for this Now I got to decide what carbine to shoot, and where to stay for the 2 nights. Any one else going?
BTH |
I would love to but unfortunatly I cannot afford this, gunfighting in and around vehicles, and the home defense class.
So I had to pick one that "lost out" and the carbine class was it. |
I was planning on going to this, but I gotta spend a week out of state for work and I gotta leave on that Sunday....
I will be there. Too bad you won't make it Harv. It would have been great training with you again.
It's lookin like the FIBs might outnumber the cheeseheads at this class!
Trying not to let that happen... Still trying to coordinate to make this a "go" for me. |
Now paid up and GTG for class. Anyone camping? |
Talking to BC yesterday while getting the range ready, he said that there were 4 or 5 people camping.
I will be stopping out Sat. afternoon late and running the camcorder for a while, will also bring along a decent camera. |
What else do I need to do if I already trained with DE already? Any hotel rooms left in reedsburg? thinking about going up friday nite if anyone needs a ride.
BTH |
register for class, bring gun, bring amo, have fun, learn lots (or reinforce what you already learned and should have been practicing) |
I couldn't remember if I needed to fax credentials/registrtion again. How about the hotel info I thought that was your specialty None? I don't like camping very much when the weather is nice and I'm not working my ass off all day with my carbine. A nice airconditioned room is what I am lookin for and if anyone else going is looking for the same we could split the cost.

Hit up the DE site and register. Note that "Alumni" price is for those who have taken this particular (Tactical Carbine 1&2) class before. Grab rifle. Grab ammo*. Call FMD to talk about carpooling/camping. *Sportsman's Whse is getting $50/200 (Federal 50Gr. Value pack). Aint great, but will do if you need ammo RFN. |

My "in" at the Voyager is not talking to me again (read my mom is mad at me again).
Really wish I could make it. Just too many expenses right now. Hope you guys have a good time!
Really wish I could make this one. I need to get carbine under my belt.
Same here.....hopefully it comes back next year. |
Not that I can go to this one, but I hope to be going at some point. That said. Is the Beretta Storm approved for use in this class?
Same here. Sometimes I love being a homeowner, and sometimes I hate it (when the unexpected $$ start adding up). Hope everyone that can go has a great time. And maybe we get some more training |
rogueI, we have credentials on file that are still current. All we need is a current application of which you can e-mail or fax. As far as hotels, I have been told that everything in Reedsburg is full due to some sports tournament. I and others that are attending have booked in the Dells. Greg,
Rouge and I are squared away, and will be sharing both a tent , and a ride up to DRC. |
Keep an eye on your underwear Rouge, and if FMD tries to cuddle just grab his butt (I hear he likes that). |
"Rouge and FMD" the next "Tommy & None"? Nahhh. It'll never happen. |
Just keep it quiet so the rest of us can get some sleep. |
man I really miss hanging out and shooting with you guys. If I miss one more class I'm going to go nuts and I already know I am going to miss one more class.)
Although I can't attend the class I hope to meet some of you when I stop out Saturday or Sunday. I cannot get off Friday or Saturday night.
I just put several things on the Equipment Exchange that class attendees might want, such as .223 ammo, AR-15 magazine holder, buffers, handgun ammo, etc. Click here to find my posts. Enjoy the class! |
Yup just grab his butt and he will purr like a kitten. |
I got out Sat. afternoon and took some pics.
I won't try to put em all up here but I have a album here enjoy. |
I see a lefty shooting an mp5 so I have to come to assume that the answer to my Storm question would be yes it can be used.
Not sure why the lefy has a right mounted sidearm. Unless he is ambi. |
Far as I know he is not a ambi he was just rotating the weapon when he had to close the bolt. I am sure he or FMD will be logging on before the night is over to clarify for ya. |
IIRC he shoots rifle left handed and pistol right handed. |
I think that's Rouge and it looks like he put some optics on the H&K about time! |

Got back a little more than an hour ago:
1) Apologies to Hooligan for forgetting to call. Sorry guy, but rolling through Mad town at 10:30PM, after a class like this, and my brain was fried. 2) It was pointed out that I keep spelling "Rogue" ~ "Rouge". It's supposed to be the independent killer type, not a makeup that makes your cheeks red. 3) I'm sticking with my spelling. 4) He shoots rifle lefty, and pistol righty. 5) None, I've got the photos of day1 to host. Put up day 2, and I'll consolidate them and put them all up. 6) Waking up in a wet sleeping bag after the rain has poured into your tent really sucks. 7) @ 300 yards, you need to hold over the target by ~3-4' when shooting an MP5. 8) Shooting an MP5 @ 300 yards is a blast! 9) Great class, good people, safe students, and BIG THANKS to Driftless Rifle Club / BulletcatchR and Defensive Edge / Greg Sullivan. Y'all rock! *Going to bed now, before AnnieO gets mad* PS: I may have lost the video game, but I still looked better than none doing it! Edit: Because posting things at midnight isn't conducive to proper spelling or grammar. |

Bang keep waiting... tink |

Great class. Lots of fun too. Nice meeting y'all. Thanks again ! !

Hey guys
Yes that is my HK (now with optics) Yes I do shoot pistol right and riffle left handed. Great weekend with great guys, Thanx bulletcatcher for hosting and Sully for instructing. FMD is right 300 hundred yards with the mp5 is fun. Camping in the rain = no fun Ice cold shower refreshing but glad to have a nice warm one now that I'm home. None thanks for the use of the cots Body armor in 90 temps and high humidity sucks Training in the rain when warm out is GTG I'll kick in more later when FMD puts up an AAR. All in all great time was had by all and I'm looking forward to doing more D.E. course's in the future. I have to go through the pictures Glennr took on Sunday and get some posted. BTH out. |
I'm putting up an AAR? |
Bud, I haven't even started to unload the truck or talked to AnnieO in person yet.
The M3 was co-witnessed beautifully with the Aimpoint MP5 mount (similar to the B&T mount). I swear that dot is 1 MOA at lower power... (hence even the attempt @ 300 with an MP5) |

bulletcatcheR and none, the photos look great! Many thanks for taking them. Thank you bulletcatcheR for your hospitality, and the use of your range. And thank you Sully for the 1st class training.
It was very refreshing to train with a group of people who were motivated, and there to learn. I felt it was a great group, and was pleased to meet everyone. I am still rehashing everything, and trying to jot down everything learned, so as to incorporate it into my training. I lot of what was taught was new to me, and I don't want to forget anything. And remember, if it ain't raining, it ain't training! I really had a good time, and look forward to doing it again in the future. |
Great pics. Thanks again for your hospitality BulletcatchR. I will be back.
Sorry it's taken me so long to post these. Here are my pics. I handed my camera off to none and he snapped a ton of pictures of Smiling Bandit and me. So be prepared to look at our silly mugs a lot in the album.
Here are some clips of me on Rogue's MP-5 MP-5: The wrong way MP-5: The right way Everyone else's pics look great. I had such a great time, learned a lot and met some really great guys. It was definitely worth the trip and I hope to make it up again sometime. Thanks again to Sully for top notch instruction, BulletcatchR for the hospitality, and a great group of guys that made the class that much better of an experience. |
Nice pics and vids, Wombat. I especially like Sully's reaction after 'the right way'. But who are those two weird looking guys in the background?
Still wish I had been there. Maybe next year, late next year. |
