While Texas is doing decent economically
right now things in the country could worsen in the future. So what
Texas made/based products, services, or strategies do yall use to
support our own economy.

Here are some of the things I buy or do.

Shiner Bock

Tito's Vodka

Dr. Pepper

Igloo icechest

Gearbox Software video games

I buy shirts from Shirt.woot.com (now owned by amazon, but still has office in Carrollton)

Comp-Tac holsters

Most of my vacationing is one in the state.

For fast food I usually eat Whataburger.

When I eat out I usually eat at local restaurants instead of national chains.

Shop for my groceries at HEB and sporting goods and clothes at Academy instead of Walmart.

When I go to the movies I wait till two weeks after a movie is released.
Opening weeks the studios get about 90% of ticket sales, later weeks
they get much less. I'd rather the theater get a some money instead of
hollywood, also you wont deal with the dumb crowds and if the movie
sucks you will have heard about that by then.

I'm looking to buy an access cab Toyota Tacoma. Double cabs are made in
Mexico but the single cab and access cab versions are made in San
Antonio.

If I still lived in their area I would have Grande for Cable and Internet instead of Time Warner

I fly Southwest.

I knew someone would say LaRue, anyone know of any Texas based companies that make decent budget priced lowers? I'm looking to buy a couple to give away for Christmas to friends.

We try to get as many "Go Texan" products as possible when we buy groceries.
Also shop at farmers markets.
Buy beef (side of) from local ranchers. Or split a steer with family.
Shiner.
Talked the wife into my STI that I ordered before she knew about it!
Eyeballing some Larue stuff when the wife is not around.

Got anything to back that up with? Are you saying the owner sold the company, or that the distillery was moved?

Pearl is now owned by Pabst, but Pabst doesn't even operate their own breweries anymore.  Pearl is brewed under contract by Miller at their Fort Worth brewery.

Sadly, the same thing is also true of Lone Star.  Also owned by Pabst, and also brewed under contract by Miller in Fort Worth.

Earl Campbell does make some damned good sausage...  I also like Meyer's out of Elgin and Opas out of Fredericksburg.  There is so much good sausage made in Texas there is no reason to ever buy crappy "imported" sausage.

I also wholeheartedly recommend:

Wild Type Ranch...  Texas Beef

Dyer Dairy in Georgetown...  Fresh un-homogenized milk, cheese, beef, chicken, turkeys, milk, etc...

Strykly Texas Cheese in Schulenburg...  Cheese shaped like Texas, what more could you want?

Dreadnought Industries makes a run every so often. Not sure if the price is "budget" but there is a volume discount.

It's getting so, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Texas winery these days.  Not so much so with breweries.  The big guys BMC had our "representatives" in Austin craft the laws so it's quite a bit harder to make it as a brewery.

Lots of good ones here, I'll add a few I haven't seen mentioned...

Model 1 Sales
Alan Harton gunsmithing
STI
Cimarron Arms
High Standard
Sporting Arms in Lewisville

When buying dry rub, BBQ sauce, etc ... I always look for a "made in Texas" product

My priorities in buying are:

1- Texas products
2 - Products made in the South or Rocky Mountain west
3 - Products made in red states
4 - Products made in blue states
5 - Products made in CA, NY, NJ, IL, MD or MA

If you go to a big box store (Home Depot, Walmart, Lowes) to buy flowers, trees, or shrubs. Look at the label to ensure you're buying plants grown in Texas. Even though the big stores get a bite out of it, there are a lot of local guys who sell to them, and those guys buy stuff from me.

Of course, you should always frequent you independent garden centers first to help even more of your money stay in Texas.

And if you go through the Go Texan website, there's listings of retailers and wholesalers in Texas.

AND

There's even a Texas Superstar program recommending certain plants and shrubs, that are ideally suited for Texas and locally grown. We grow quite a few of these and are trying to add new varieties.
