Anyone have a lead on a conversational Spanish class or tutor in Winchester or maybe Loudoun? I have about 18 months before a trip to Central America and need to brush up on my language skills. LFCC was not any help.

If you don't need a person and have the discipline to work on your own, I used the Duolingo app to refresh my French before a trip to Europe.  Was a great refresher and I had zero issue moving around and communicating with non-English speakers while traveling.  I took it in high school and college so I had a background in it..  but had not used it almost 20 years.

I used it to learn basic Swedish which was really helpful to read signs and store fronts, but conversationally I was really slow as I had zero background in it.  I really wish I spent more time with my grandparents when they were alive, they were native speakers.

Other than that, I do not have much to help.  Just wanted to give you an option of something to play with.  The French and Swedish really focused on conversations I might actually have.  It did not waste my time on frill stuff, if that makes sense.  It is free too...

Thanks for the reply!  I'm using duolingo just about every day.  I'm trying to get some personal interaction communication and maybe even learn a little about the culture.  As an example I always try to be nice to folks from service folks to CEO's.  After 50+ years wandering the earth I think I do a good job of complementing and encouraging folks without being creepy; not sure I can pull that off in Latin America!  Hola hermosa camarera, either gets me dinner quicker, or slapped....  :-)

Go to Loudoun Nova and put up an ad on the bulletin board that you need a Spanish tutor?  No clue if Nova has a bulletin board though...

How about just hitting up a service worker that you frequently see here that is a native speaker?  I use to talk to a guy at the 7/11 when I worked midnights and would stop in for coffee.  Helped me a ton with my conversational Spanish.

2018 Ecuador motorcycle trip.  Flying to Quito with some friends, renting bikes, two weeks riding the Andes, Amazon to the Pacific.

Find the local day laborer sight and pay one to talk to you.

I can see it now, you ride up in your car, roll down the window, flash some cash and tell them you just want someone to talk to.
