Alright guys. We need to set up a get together for us that can't drive up to the panhandle shindigs.

I know we've got at least 4 or 5 people from Huntington, Charleston, Beckley that are interested.

We just need to figure out where we're going to do it.

Most of the public ranges aren't real great down here. So I'm not sure where the best place to do it is.

So who all would be interested? I'm thinking we should do it on a Saturday either this later month or early July.

People who have expressed interest:

-evo7011
-markfall
-ChuckD05
-walt_l
-MallNinjaSK
-Stangman2v
-Savagerabbit73 & husband
-jdj1
-crodeo

**Update**

The tentative schedule has changed from July 16 to July 23. We will plan on having the meet-n-greet at the Putnam Co. Gun Club in Eleanor, WV.

If you plan on attending, post or im me and I'll start a new list of attendees so we can have an idea of how many people will make it.

Like I said, I'm down. There is a 180 yard range near Beckley, but its public and it is a DNR controlled range. plus there are a few idiots that show up kinda regular who are dangerous to be around at best.  Anyone know of some good spots?

I'm in Huntington and I'm game. I belong to northeastern Kentucky fish and game club. It's private but I'll look into what it takes for a special group.

That'd be good. I've heard that place is great.

Anyone know anything about the Putnam county gun club? I don't know if they would do a group rental or not. If we did it there my grandparents old place is right down the road. I've got a giant bonfire built I've been waiting for an occasion to burn.

I'm right outside Huntington. Always down for some food and beer. Just waiting to leave for OSUT in August so my schedule is wide open. Don't know of any ranges besides the public Beech Fork one, hopefully we can figure something out.

I'm game and belong to the Huntington Rifle & Pistol club in Barboursville. Its a private club/range that I believe is 170 acres that includes a 300 meter rifle range. A meet on a saterday out there shouldnt be a problem but drinking alcohol out there is prohibited. Beech Fork gun range would be off limits as well, considering a preacher was murdered out there a few years ago and quite a few crazies show up to pick up brass and drink while you try and punch holes in paper.

I would say we could meet at my house (In Huntington) but my wife currently works night shift and will be sleeping most of the day on Saterdays considering she comes home around 7am. There are several places in the area to grab some food after a range trip.

Ideally, the range in Kentucky that Walt mentioned would be great. Ive only been there once, thanks Walt, and its a really nice place and around 20 minutes outside of huntington.

If anyone need more info, post on here or shoot me a PM/email

I've checked with NEKF&G and all i need to do is check with the secretary about availabiliy and get approval from the board. Their next meeting is June 30!! We would need to pick a date ASAP so I can go with hat in hand to the board.

Everyone would need to sigh a waiver for COA reasons.

SO, let's pick a date in July and get things rolling!!

No alcohol allowed though, unless they'd give you special permission. I wouldn't count on it though, unless you know someone.

When I said cook food and drink a beer, I didn't mean at the range. I just thought it might be cool if we had a little cookout or something afterward.

Just meeting up to shoot is plenty fine too.

I don't think anyone was supporting drinking while shooting. What I meant by the original post was that it might be nice to have a little cookout when we were done shooting and cook some hotdogs and maybe have a beer.

I don't drink and shoot. Hell, I rarely drink on any occasion. I just assumed some people might want to if we were grilling food. Alcohol being allowed certainly is not a prerequisite for us finding a place to shoot.

The cookout/hang out part of the plan may be more of a hassle than anything, so we can just plan on shooting if that's what everyone prefers.

So everyone is in agreement on July?

July 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 are Saturdays. Any of them would work for me.

Just for reference, what I was referring to is at the clubhouse at NEKFG, and after shooting on any consumption. I just assumed that people would have the common sense to not drink & shoot. Yes I know what I get for assuming......However, the clubhouse area is used for dinners all the time so if someone can bring a grill, I'd imagine we could get approval fairly easily (without the booze). I don't drink so it doesn't matter to me either way.

I knew what you meant. My club is fairly primitive and is basically a covered shelter with a field. There are several picnic tables but not running water or electricity thats why I suggested if we were to use my place, after the shoot, go someplace else to eat.

If we can hold it there, that'd be great.  Haven't been out there in many many years.  I'd join that one if they were actually taking any new members just because it's so close to us.  If that doesn't work out I don't think it would be too hard to get PCGC.  Someone should pick a date and start spreadin' the word!

I will check my clubs schedule for that day and make a call this afternoon about the 16th.

How many people are we talking about......5-10?

**also note that my club frowns upon tracer ammo and tannerite. This was in our newsletter a few months ago, someone caught some brush on fire with some tracer rounds last year and now they do not allow it.

I can make a list in the OP of people who have said they're coming.

Sorry i didnt type much last night, I was mobile.

Here is where we officially stand (IMHO)....

-Huntington Rifle and Pisol Club: I was approved by the clubs VP but he has to get approval from the other 5 members of the board. He told me requests like this are usually brought up during meetings at which I countered by saying the next one isnt until September. He sounded like a decent guy and will call the other members for me and seek approval. I am not 100% certain we can get approval from everyone as they are kind of sticklers in regards to rules and such. Combined that with the fact the the clubs current president (voted in this past December) is my Ex's attorney, its really hard to say if we will get 100% approval. I personally called all 6 members of the board last night and only the VP returned my phone call. I will call the secratary today as he is the one that schedules these sorts of things.

-Putnan Gun Club: Another member is checking on this, I cant remember his name right off hand.

-Northeastern gun club in Ashland, KY: Walt (member on here) is currently seeking approval to use this facility. This range would be ideal as it is much larger and has a club house. I've only been there once, thanks to Walt some months back and it seems like a really nice place.

Its official, my club is out of the running. The secretary just called and said that he could not approve it based on insurance and liability issues. He also stated that according to the by-laws (which I requested a copy of) that any organized event requests need to be voted on by members of the club and would would require "months" of planning. To save an arguement I just said thats cool and hung up the phone.

While and I am member at this club and have been for about 5 years now, I really dont care about the politics or changing anything within the club. If I had more time I would, but I dont so I just pay my dues and carry on. I do feel that there is room for improvement within the club and the by-laws need to be updated. There are numerous other flaws that I have but I simply ignore them because I rarely go there anyway and never attend the meetings.

Sorry I couldn't help but they are sticklers out there. I did bring up the fact that per the by-laws, I am allowed to bring "non-members" to shoot. The laws do no state how many I can bring each visit and I brought that up but he countered with the fact I had already told him that this was an organized meet.

That's too bad. Thanks for all of the effort you put into it though.

Any of the Putnam Co. members heard anything?

Another public option would be the Chief Cornstalk range. I have never been there, but I heard it is far less crowded than Beech Fork and it goes 200 yards. It isn't too far from Huntington.

I'd like to join the club too. I actually printed out the application yesterday. Is it best to just fill out the application and mail it in, or come down and fill something out in person?

I'm moving to Midway next month. It will be great to have such a nice range so close.
