I visit Las Vegas probably 2-3 times a year. I am really nervous when I do so because I am not carrying a gun. I carry everywhere here in Texas.

I have decided that I will take a day out of my next trip and get certified for carry in Nevada.

Where should I take the class?

One concern that I had was after downloading the forms that you must "qualify" with every weapon you intend to carry. I carry LOTS of different guns depending on my mood, where I'm going, perceived threat level etc.....From what I understand the instructor needs to sign off on each gun I want to carry- to say that I am competent with it. From what I have seen from some instructors websites etc....there is a "fee" associated with each gun more than one or two that I would qualify with.

I would like to "qual" with a half dozen pistols- Glock, Beretta 92, XD, 1911, SW 642, Hi Power. Is there any way to minimize the cost on this? Also, I was not clear after looking at things whether or not the license lists a particular example of those firearms by specific serial number or is it just by model?

Is there a huge variance in CHL regulations from place to place within Nevada? I understand that Boulder, N. LV, Clark County etc...all have some "special" regulations. Is there some unified "phamphlet" that lays out the rules I could read up on things before taking the class?

Any help much appreciated.

You must qualify with each semi-auto you wish to carry. The permit lists pistols by model.

If you qualify with a revolver, you may carry any revolver.

I've had a few of the issues I raised explained and was able to find a decent website that explained some others like the serial number issue.

One question that remains is if I were to qualify with a Springfield XD they really don't have "model numbers"...an XD is an XD though they do have names for different frame sizes. If I were to qual. with a 9mm Service model could I legally carry a 9mm Tactical or Compact? How are they listed? Kinda the same question with 1911's- there's a 5" and a 4" and others......

XD would be XD-9 or XD-40, so on. I can carry either my sub-compact or compact under one qual.

1911 is another stroy, My Kimber has Ultra Eclipse on the slide so thats what I can carry, No other model of Kimber even though it's still a 1911. My springfield has 1911A1 as the model and that's how it's on the permit.

The system is just plain dumb.
