I will be there in March, just north of Sacramento.

I am military, do I have to register my guns once I move? I might have some hand guns that aren't on the roster that I don't like and might sale when I get to Ca.

I know I can't have my SBRs or cans. How about my GSG-5? any limit on 22lr mag sizes?

What all do I need to do to my one AR I can bring? Its an 20in AR, fixed stock, no threaded barrel and a normal grip.

With my Pmags, I see you can't import repair kits any more, so do I have to leave all of them behind?

Ok, first off, make sure you bring that Glock 43 you don't want. Secondly, all you need for the AR is a bullet button and 10 round mags or you can bring 10/30 mags, go to magblocks to get the stuff to do it. Otherwise bringing repair kits or disassembled high cap mags is now illigal, however individual mag parts are still legal. If at any time prior to 2000 you came into the state of CA with your legally owned hi cap mag, those were legally owned in CA prior to the ban and can come back.

Not sure on where around Sac you are planning to live, but this map may be of some use to you if you would like to have a CCW.

If it says XM15 anywhere on it, it's banned by name. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You can still bring the upper, only the lower itself cant come. You could pick up a Spikes/Anderson etc. lower for the time you are here.

PCS orders mean you dont have to register shit.  Just make sure everything else is legal.

"Military exempted

Since orders to California are not necessarily permanent, military are exempt from the new-resident handgun registration. If the service member separates in California such registration would be appropriate at that time. PC 17000(a) (old 12001(n))"

With that being said there are alot of people out here who have no-no items.  They avoid public ranges and tend to go shoot out on BLM land here in southern CA.   They also don't show off and leave their shit out of sight/locked up when at home.

Oh and leave any Tracer ammo at home.  Each round is considered a felony because they cause fires.

Outside of the big cities most of the LEO's I have met are good people who think the firearms laws are retarded.

Theres also alot of open racism out here.  Probably due to population density.  Everyone dislikes everyone not like them.   This place aint no socialist-utopia-equality-filled land of progress that liberals try and make it out to be.

Active Duty Military and 'assault weapons'

In 2011, the MAWP program was altered to require the signature of one's base/post commander verifying that the weapon is required for duty use. That requirement has, in practice, killed the program.

Active duty military with PCS (permanent change of station) orders to California and who own personal weapons California defines as 'assault weapons' should contact the California Department of Justice regarding a Military Assault Weapon Permit (MAWP). CA-DOJ also suggests you contact your base/station/post legal staff for assistance.

With a MAWP, the service member may bring those weapons on the permit into California.

Once obtained, the MAWP may be renewed annually. If the service member separates from Active Duty while in California, the MAWP is no longer effective, and the 'assault weapons' become illegal and must be removed from the state or otherwise handled according to law.
