Anyone getting pounded by snow yet? We have abnout 4'' in Christiansburg and we are expecting another 4''-6'' in the next 2 hours. The wife unit made it all the way from Salem only to slide past the driveway and into the neighbors yard. Many people cant get up our street.

Snowing like a sonofabitch in Roanoke. Took me most of an hour to go the length of Williamson Rd from the airport to downtown.

Cloudy here in Reston.

Went in early, left early. Was already in the car when they said DC should be fine. Chilling at my local coffee shop. Apparently they have a democratic meeting tonight, should be interesting

87 crashes on the beltway so far in anticipation of snow tomorrow, also suspect milk, eggs, and TP are sold out here to NJ. [/sarcasim off] Nothing here in Stafford but rain.

New Kent = rain. I believe this is the 4th or 5th day in a row for the rain. I would welcome the snow just to not see rain.

ETA: 1900- Snow has arrived. Panic was right behind it.

Still nothing in the Dale City area

I'm up here in Sandston. I just finished the ARK yesterday, now i've got to put snow skies on it

I think i saw 50 or so plows trucks on the side of the road on the way home. And the weather report says we may get up to an inch here.

Starts at 7, might be hungry by then. I like the owner and dont want them to go after a pair of retired teachers running an independent shop.... But the urge is there. Also got the barrista wanting to go to the range.

Nada here. Loudoun/Fairfax/

Nothing in Hampton Roads just rain right now waiting for it though
Link Posted: 1/17/2013 2:57:14 PM EDT
Had a little more than 8" when I left work in Monroe Co. About 2" up in Lewisburg.
Link Posted: 1/17/2013 3:02:22 PM EDT
prince william county is notorious for over preparing for nothing or not being prepared at all. I drove down 234 and 66 and there must have been 50 plows loaded up with sand on standby. I would love some snow about now. 3 day weekend FTW

The local news is already going full over the possible dusting we likely wont get here in Norfolk. A 1/4 inch of snow to the fools at WAVY is the end of the world.

Quiet in Shenandoah Valley.

We've got a bunch down here in Carroll. Power is out and I hear limbs snapping all around the house.

Snow? Huh, for once the mountains of WV didn't see a flake.

You VA folks amuse me with these OMG I have 4" snow, we're screwed! Hell, I don't even call it a storm till it's over 8" at my house, and I'm at 2000ft, not really high at all for the mountains.

Link Posted: 1/17/2013 4:08:51 PM EDT
We have about 3 or 4 inches so far in Lynchburg, and people have lost their minds.

10-14" in Wise County. I'm sick of it already. Shoveled more than my fair share already and I've got more to shovel. Working during this crap sucks.

Not a flake here in Manassas. 18 month old wrangler is never going to get to play in the snow...
Link Posted: 1/17/2013 6:17:38 PM EDT
It has stopped snowing here and we about 8"-10" on the ground. The power flickered a few times but it never went out.

i live as far east as you can get in Va before you drop off into the Atlantic and i dont call it a storm till about that. of course, we dont get much snow in the first place because it all depends on the water temp of the bay but when we get snow, its usually something to talk about. last year we just had a couple of dustings, the year before we had one storm that dumped about a foot and a half and the year before we had 3 feet on the ground between 2 storms that happened 2 days apart. now THAT was a snow storm. LOL.

The "snowmageddon" was clearly a joke. We got 29" in two days about 3 years ago in Fred'burg. That was a hell of a storm!

'Bout a 1/4 to a 1/2 in Suffolk right now. Had some thundersnow going for a minute.

The part of VA we are in is 2133 ft and 4" is nothing to us. I like the snow personally. Perfect time to get some quality time in with the kids.

Got some thunder snow here in Chesterfield last night as well; got maybe an inch, total.

Drug my happy ass to work anyway; kids are out of school.

We lost power around 6PM last night. 8 inches of snow. The wife and kid were outside when part of the willow came down at the end of the driveway. Scared me as I thought they might have been hit. The house got cold but we slept ok. Got the generator running on the front porch so that we can work. Propane heater is keeping the house comfortable until the electric comes back on.

3-4" in Powhatan, some thundersnow. Power flickered a few times but never went out. Several evergreen trees were laid over into the road this morning on my way to work.

I saw a few flakes float down this morning when I went to get in the car, in She-town, but that’s it….

I’m very disappoint… I want to really see it come down!

I didn't see a drop here. Very happy too.

Beautiful scenic photo. Where in VA is that? Probably down near Roanoke/Radford?

We got 12" on our mountain just past Miller's in christiansburg. Lost power for 18 hours and had to rough it with only 4G cell service.

Work here at Lowe's is crazy with 127594 calls about generators and heaters...

Wow. I'm about a half a mile away and never lost power!

Carroll County.

We borrowed a kerosene heater today, and then my generator decided to eat a bunch of oil and locked up. Yay!

I live in a spot that rarely has a power outage, just the occasional off/on that makes you reset clocks that don't have batteries, while the grid adjusts. I have my generator, but I hear that we haven't lost power in this neighborhood long enough to spoil a fridge in 20 years.

Hope you get everything under control soon, Cobra.

I had 11". I live on a hillside with a lot of pines. I could hear them all night snapping under the weight of the snow and freezing rain.

Still no power here. We stayed in a hotel last night so that we could take showers and try to get a decent nights rest. Didn't really happen that way as our 20 month old went wild. My parents who live next door are staying at a hotel tonight. I borrowed their kerosene heater as well. Our single one just wasn't cutting it. I've had them running for 4 hours and its just now getting in the mid 60s in the house. We are going to venture out shortly to get more kerosene and some dinner. I also have to try to get the mustang to the top of the driveway so I'm ready for work in the morning. That should be fun too.

Finally got power back tonight. Gonna have to look into one of those whole house generators...
