I'm going to loan her a pistol, and I need a dealer to mail it to, preferably near the LSU campus. Can anyone recommend a dealer to do the transfer that won't give her the little lady treatment, or rip her off on the transfer fee?

You are not transferring ownership, just send it to her.

Felony across state lines, must go through a FFL dealer. Even if you are letting them borrow it.

Also illegal to mail a hand gun unless you are an FFL and it's going to an FFL. You can send it ups or fed ex, but must goto an FFL.

Sorry for bad info, I must be different for rifles, I have a neighbor that hunts all over the US and always ships his rifles to the lodge, or the buddy he is going to hunt with, instead of checking it on the plane.

Accurate Firearms, or Jim's Firearms. I've never dealt with Accurate, but they are highly recommended.

Oh, and pics...

He mails them to himself. Perfectly legal.

Thanks for the recommendations. No pics.

I would second the vote for Accurate Firearms.

I've used Louisiana Reloading Supply twice, and it's been a pleasure. Transfer fee was only $20, and they're nice people.

ETA: Someone above mentioned Jim's Firearms. I called them a while back and asked how much their transfer fee would be. They told me $50.

She's a LA native, going to school at LSU. I'm active duty, in Washington. I'm probably not gonna see her for a few years.

Accurate has a 50 dollar transfer fee. No thanks...I'll call that reloading place in the morning.

They're not that far away from campus either. I got out of class one day and blasted over there in about 10 minutes.

+1 Their business is selling supplies, not guns (though they stock a few and will order). Point being, they aren't there to wring every dollar out of you on a firearms sale/transfer, and they are good guys who deserve the business.

Yeah, I google mapped them out, looks like a 10 mile trip for her, which is probably 45 minutes of BR traffic. I didn't get a chance to call them, but I'm gonna.

I'm surprised everyone asked for pics of the sister, but nobody asked what kind of gun.

I went around 1 or 2 o'clock in the afternoon when the interstate was clear. Baton Rouge traffic is a b*tch around 4-6 o'clock. I worked close by where the gun shop is located, and I had to drive there every day in 5 o'clock traffic. Gotta love driving a standard-shift in stop and go traffic.

Very good choice of platform, have she used it or shot it before? Hope your 1911 STI in 38super is reliable and cycles fine for her.

I have a 45acp Springfield 1911 Milspec with NM serial # that I had built up - dehorn, polished.

It runs very very well. She has shot 1911s before, but they were .45s. This outta be a fun gun for her.

That's great, 1911s can be picky if not built correctly and lots of labor and time to worked on initially, after that it is awesome!

STI builds solid guns. That pistol has had a few thousand through it. It loves cast bullets too.
