I'm in the process of building a couple SBR's and just today got the documents in order to submit for the required Law Enforcement signatures.  Got my fingerprint cards "printed" then went down the hall to see the ATF Lady.  She was most pleasant and was nice enought to inspect all my paperwork while I was there and found I had forgotten a signature, so I got to fix that while I was there.  Jeez, what they didn't know about me they now do.

ATF Lady told me "four to six weeks" for Sherrif's Dept to process this paperwork.  nobody to complain to but you folks, so why 4 to 6 weeks?

Glad to have this process under way, but the local Sherrifs office really just needs to 1)Verify to the Feds these items are legal in this area (of course they are), and 2) verify that I am not a bad guy.  When they pull you over the cop in the car does this in 5 minutes, a NICS call-in when you buy a gun takes just a couple minutes, so why "4 to 6 weeks"?

I can see why some take the Trust route for NFA goodies......

Its all CYA on their part. Which Sheriff??? I have seen Joe's office do it in two weeks. They look at calls of service to your residence from all agencies. They may also pull calls to service for all other addresses you have in the system. ACIC/NCIC checks are done and they usually only have one person doing the checking. It can be a slow process.

This was at downtown Phoenix (Sherrif Joe).  I'm hoping it will be much sooner than 6 weeks, but it is what it is.

I agree 6 weeks ish is a bit long.

Think about it. It can take 5-10 min's and it would be done. But this is slowed down to dicourage people from doing this. People hate to wait for what they want. I am in a waiting period for a MAC10 with a suppressor right now. It is coming from out of state. 6-10 weeks for the transfer to my dealer then another 6-10 weeks for the p/w to clear. Now I ask you this. Are you willing to spend 3-4000 bucks for something and then wait 12-20 weeks to get something? Most are not.

Oh BTW! 6-10 weeks each, is a best case ESTIMATE. With everyony buying now before our great lord of all savior obama ends it all, who the hell knows how long this will take!

Part of it is the amount of time to investigate.  Keep in mind, the lead will make a bunch of calls and some part of it is waiting for others to get back to them.  Its a pain.  Also, I know they are backed up with a rush of stuff due to the Holy Season.
FWIW.  I know two LEO's, one got in 3 weeks, one took 5.  Just luck of the week and how many people are waiting in front of you.  Its not you.

Yeah, I pretty much figured it would be slow, thanks for the comments guys. I can sit back and wait patiently or jump up and down and wait the same period of time.

On the current gun frenzy and make no mistake a gun buying frenzy is exactly what Obama has created.  How can we let the gun-grabbers know the actual truth?  This Hard Fact Truth: Obama's Nomination and win is the cause of the biggest gun buying spree since the 1994 Assault Rifle Ban (that they also caused).  They are their own worst enemy and ours too, yet the sheep run to that hogwash.

I just hope BO tackles some real problems before he gets to banning guns and screws up my NFA permits now in process.  I have some serious cash tied up in this....

You know you don't have to do all that, right?

Yes I could have gone the Trust route, but I don't want some politician proclaining a year from now "All NFA stamps issued via Trust are now null and void" and then have to do the traditional CLEO dance. Or some State or Federal ruling years from now that Trust must be renewed every 10 years and if no they are void.  I feel the traditional Lew Enforcement sign-off is permanent and unchallengable, I have nothing to hide and a few weeks is no big deal.

Yes I know there are advantages to the Trust route (time and money savings, LE doesn't need to have my toys listed for all to see, etc.)  When I weighed it out I thought the CLEO signature was best.  Now if I was planning to do a lot of Form 1 and Form 4's I might go the Trust route just to save money and trips downtown, and time.  YMMV.
