This is an official communication from the Office of Senator John Ensign.
Any tampering or alteration of this communication is prohibited and may
result in criminal investigation or prosecution.

May 29, 2003

Dear Mr.(Fingers):

Thank you for contacting me regarding the semiautomatic assault weapons
ban.  I value the opinions of every Nevadan and am grateful for the
opportunity to respond to your concerns.

As you know, Congress passed the Violent Crime Control and Law
Enforcement Act in 1994.  Part of this legislation prohibits the
manufacture, transfer, or possession of semiautomatic assault weapons and
large-capacity ammunition-feeding devices for a 10-year period.  As you
also know, the so-called assault weapons ban will expire on September 13,
2004.

I believe that the Second Amendment to the Constitution must be
protected.  The Second Amendment is critical to making sure that the rest
of the Bill of Rights is protected.  Nevadans have a long history of
independence, and this independence is built on freedoms like the right to
bear arms.  Nevadans count on their Second Amendment freedoms to defend
themselves and preserve their way of life in our great nation.  I
understand the importance of the Second Amendment and will oppose a
renewal of the ban when it expires.

Once again, thank you for contacting me on this very important issue.
Should you have any other questions or comments or would like to contact
me in the future regarding another issue, please do not hesitate to either
write or e-mail me via my website at http://ensign.senate.gov.

Sincerely,

JOHN ENSIGN
United States Senator

JE/mm

Senator Reid (D):
"Legislation has not yet been introduced in Congress to reauthorize the ban. I will keep your views in mind if such legislation comes before the Senate."

Senator Ensign (R):
"I understand the importance of the Second Amendment and will oppose a
renewal of the ban when it expires."

Sometimes it helps me to see things side by side......Word is that Reid (along with Daschle) is going to be targeted big time in 2004.  Everyone get out their checkbooks!

Shelly Berkley is as useful to the state of Nevada as a flat tire on my truck.  Both just flop around and make a lot of noise while being of no use.
