Any way to verify this?   Comparing WA vs. CA in the so called "gun violence" puts CA way ahead in crimes committed with guns even with all their control and restrictions, based on the FBI's normalized report.

Where to get car accidents?

The new year opened with four people shot in three difference incidents in Seattle, according to this news side story. In April, the Times’ FYI Guy, Gene Balk, reported that more people die in Washington from gun violence than from car accidents. That same statistic holds in King County, where authorities report more than 100 people are shot and killed annually.

Remember they count suicides as "gun violence."

I'm confused, 591 makes it a requirement for ffl to do background checks? Is this just ignorance on the writers part or what

Thanks!   So, based on this chart even puching the envelop and counting suicides the numbers are still lower.

Furthermore, if they are counting suicides the article is a complete fallacy even in the use of words.   "People are shot" is completely different than "People shoot themselves".

By the way,  The "cause of death" and "homicide" numbers difference is huge.  I'll go on a limb and assume that the accidental deaths are included in the first column, correct?   Otherwise if so many people commit suicide by firearm the number of suicides using other means must be staggering.   Is it so high here in Seattle?

I'm gonna need help, A 4473 form is national standard right. So then they could require it for all transfers?

The first column is all deaths where a firearm was the mechanism, this includes legal intervention.

BTW the total number of suicides for the same time period is 9146.

Since that number includes "legal intervention" it likely also includes self-defense, etc.

Nevertheless, it's still half the number of suicides.

So, these idiots are less concerned about working to reduce the number of suicides than pesting law-abiding people?

Seems to match their constant "struggle" to allow for indiscriminated abortions, ignoring kids that die in car crashes and so on.

Is it a correct assumption that this was already brought before our "elected officials"?

News flash, everyone dies. So guns don't equal more death. More bIrths equal more death.

They could require it if 591 passes. Essentially all firearms sales would need to be run through an FFL holder. This would kill the private sales we can currently make now. And in Washington all transfers through dealers require sales tax to be collected and dealers charge a fee for their assistance.

Read I594.  It allows the FFL to charge a fee, but prohibits collection of a tax.  It still sucks.

That's an interesting quote.  The other day I was talking to a SPD DUI Officer who told me that there were five DUI fatalities in Seattle on New Year's Eve.  I can't verify the accuracy of that, but I have no reason to doubt him.  I assume the people at the Times would have very easy access to those stats.  If it's true then there is some very clearly biased reporting going on with the Times poll.  Shocking, I know.
