I'm trying to talk a buddy into going down there to camp for a couple of days.  Besides the Shut Ins, what else is there to do down there?  I'm thinking we'd explore the Shut Ins, Tom Sauk, the reservoir, etc.  Any conservation areas close by we could shoot at?  What about access to other local rivers for fishing?  Hows the fishing at the Shut Ins?  Any other must see stuff around there?

My Buddy from Germany and I went there back in 2008 and we had a great time.
There are several trails you can Hike. We went on one which leads to a Waterfall. You can also camp on those Trails the one with the Water fall is a very long Hike and to make it more enjoyable you can even Camp along this route.
There is also a Large Observation Tower and from the Top you have a real nice view of all the surrounding areas.
As far as shooting I am not aware of an area where you can do this. Perhaps there is one which I am not aware off.

Here are some pic's we took.

Fort Davidson is not too far away in Pilot Knob.  Worth visiting if you are in the area.

Cool Area...  Pumpkinheaver and Wheelchair Man prolly know these areas best...

I have a cabin down there off 32 about 7 miles before you hit 21... (Damn I wish I could afford to move down there)

If you have any 4wheelers, dune buggys, Jeeps, or other OHVs, St. Joe State Park is a pretty cool place...  You can camp, ride all day, swim, then crash in your tent and do it over the next day... Also, if your into Geocaching there is a ton of them hidden back in there...

johnson's shutin's is a great afternoon in this heat. you can walk down to the actual shutin's climb on the rocks, sit in a pool of cool water, relax, etc.  also elephant rock state park is a fun walk around and a good time climbing around on the rocks.

I grew up about ten miles south of there in Centerville. There is a range in Deer Run State Park in Ellington. I have not been in the shut ins since the dam broke.

St. Joe State Park certainly is a nice place to spend a fun filed day. I live only 20 minutes from there and go there quite often you certainly would enjoy it if you have the wheels to do it.

Yea, this thread makes me miss my Quads...  I had a 2003 or 2004 Yamaha Warrior and a same year Polaris Trailboss 325 (for the wife).  We sold'em as they did not get used much...  When we did it was a blast...

So where is there to work down there??? Any places hire often???

Don't go on a weekend.
Visit Elephant Rocks while you're there
You could always take a float trip while you're in the area
There's a Zip line place not too far away.
Ozark Trail
Mina Sauk Falls

Lots to see and do . . . did I mention that you should go during the week, rather than a weekend?
