Folks I am trying to get my lovely wife more into shooting. She is super shy though when I got her into archery we had to wait till the club was empty to teach her. So we ended shooting EARLY or late. Is there any secluded area within an hour or so that we can pull off the road drive up into the boonies with the 4x4 and get some shooting done where I can teach her some more basics of the AR and get her some trigger time without a buncha shooters standing around? Once she gets used to it she'll be fine but being shy and sort of an overachiever she feels self conscious as a new shooter.

Thanks in advance.

There's a couple places near the spot where we are going to go the end of this month, I can show you. You won't be able to shoot more than a hundred yards or so, but if she's just learning it'll be okay.

Steve-Oh thanks  Great so I can just follow the directions down there for the shoot and find a place with a backstop and where no one is having a picnic in the line of fire and go for it?

Yup exactly. Actually if you go there at odd time, like in the middle of the day, there won't be anyone there so you'll have the entire bowl to yourself.
But if you go there on Saturdays or Sunday mornings, there can be so many  people there it's ridiculous, with people shooting all sorts of crazy, unsafe directions. Don't even get me started on the time some guys were shooting at clay pigeons uphill with buckshot. Of course, we were uphill from them. We'd hear a "BOOM BOOM BOOM!" and 2 seconds late we were getting pelted with lead, and my windshield got cracked.

Anyways. Here's a picture, since I gather you haven't been there. Even if it is busy, you can drive all the way up and to the right (follow the dotted line) and use your new found four wheel F150 (nice job by the way ) and go up this pretty steep hill. Once there, you can shoot maybe 75-100 yards west, directly into the hill.
Have fun!

They need to add a sign with simple with a picture directing them to shoot to the sides of the bowl and not up the freakin hill. I about got a .357 in the front of my truck one day coming down the hill by a couple of kids shooting dads gun up the trail.. Bring a orange flag and put it where people down the hill can see it and hope they figure out that someone is up there. My old truck took some minor damage to the paint from some idiots shooting clay one day, I'm just glad that people that stupid are not shooting rifles.

I havn't been for myself yet (plan to) but I would sure guess there are some great places to the west. Past Grantsville there isn't much of anything along I80 until you hit Wendover.

We went last Sunday in the afternoon we goofed on the directions and ended up going WAY out on 73(?) anyhow, we eventually found it and went up the hill just a bit and shot for an hour or so. Real nice area for shooting. I think the wife and I are going up again this weekend after house hunting.

Thanks Steve-oh for the help.

I don't know why all you guys go to that spot. I am surprised that no one has been shot up there yet. I've gone down Redwood just a little further around the bend and found much safer spots to shoot with the area to myself. The one time I went there we had guys just down the hill below us where they could not see us. So they thought it was safe to shot their shotguns towards us.

It sure is nice living south where I can be out of town and shooting in minutes.
