No such thing as a SBR permit.
AR15.com SBR FAQ: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=22&t=199905 Select, copy and paste, and you are there. If you have any questions after the 24 pages in the FAQ, then feel free to address them here or in the class 3 discussion forum. |

Made link hot. lucky_13 is right; read that thread and most (if not all) your questions should be answered. If you have some specific questions, feel free to ask. To simplify the process: fill out the Form 1, send it in to ATF with a $200 check, paperwork comes back to you approved, you can then slap a shorty upper on your AR. Of course, I'm skipping the engraving issue. There are some dissenting opinions on that one. If you need help with the paperwork, let me know. I'd be happy to assist you. Mark |

You the Jimbo I know that shot with us a few weeks ago at newnangi's place?
What county you live in? Mark |
Great to have you on the board!
I can send you fingerprint cards and anything else you might need. Hell, if you need, I'll even do your Form 1 and mail it to you. Let me know how I can help. Contact off the board is [email protected] and newnangi has my home and cell numbers. What kinda blaster you have in mind? Did you get to shoot my SBR and newnangi's SBR? Man, his 6.8 hits a little harder than my 5.56. Mark |
BTW, is that the county where "the judge" works? If so, he can sign your forms! The guy makes an awesome hamburger AND can sign NFA forms. How cool is that?
Mark |
"Judge" lives in Fayette...funny thing though....I live in Coweta but on paper I live in Fayette Co..I'm registered to vote there, and have a DL from Fayette. We bought a house in Coweta but we knew we would move back to Fayette eventually so I never changed that stuff...Can he sign it for me for real??!! Good god that would make life easy. He's the County State Court Judge and sees mostly misdomener criminal cases, some felony drug cases. I know that the Sheriff signed his paperwork, would that be because he just could not sign it for himself?
Should be the county in which you reside. If the sheriff will sign, no worries.
BTW, I am thinking about the 6.8...If I'm going to go to a shorter barrel, I want to have a round that will not bleed off velocity and accuracy at 300meters. From what I've read it sounds like 5.56 looses some ass when you go under 14.5 inches..
Thanks for offering the help with the paperwork...I may take you up on that..I'll email ya...Jimbo |
Well, are there any real negatives in going the Trust route? Seems like there is less hassle for every NFA app after the first vs. going and getting fingerprinted and a sign-off every time.
I can't think of any. Contrary to what some people think or speculate, the "trust route" and corporation transfers are NOT something the ATF can decision away. Congress would have to change the law. There is no renewal required. You can easily change it without a lawyer. All perfectly legal. Scares most people because it is so simple. They think "there has to be more to it." It really is that simple. |
Congrats Jimbo on beginning the "event horizon of the wallet". There's no turning back now. You have chosen the "red pill"...life as you know it is over. Seriously though, I was thoroughly impressed by the 6.8 but the cost of the ammo makes it tough to practice a lot. 5.56 drops roughly 50 feet per second for every 1-inch of barrel you drop off. So if the load you're shooting is NATO spec it should be in the 3200 fps and change realm from a 20-inch and the high 2800's/low 2900's out of an M4 length barrel. It's really not that big of a drop. Once you go under 14.5 strange things start to happen.

Well, when ever I get enough extra dough I know how I will be going. |

What are the chances of me getting a CLEO signature here in Cobb County (Powder Springs Area). I've been wanting to SBR for a while, also would love to have a suppressor.
Cobb will sign - if you look good to them and pass their background check process. They try to make life difficult for guys playing the NFA game. If you are in Cobb, I recommend a HARD look at the trust process. Let me know if you need help.
Jimbo, I had to buy a new ink cartridge, so I got delayed but I'll have stuff to you soon. Mark |
Thanks for the Reply Bookhound! I just had a feeling about Cobb being difficult. I'll start researching the Trust Route. Going to have to set up a Corporation soon anyways, as I have first right of refussal to purchase the company I work for now. The owner just celebrated his 69th birthday so my Corporation may not be that far away.
I do NOT recommend putting NFA items on a corp used for other business. Why?
-Potential tax issues (NFA item is an asset) -Something happens with the corp; what happens to your NFA items? -Corp is sued; what happens to your NFA items? There are some other issues, but with a Trust there are some other benefits: -No annual renewal -No annual fees -You can change a Revocable Trust very easily without lawyer assistance -Can be used to assist in passing on your items in the event of your death Do some research, ask some questions. If you need help, let me know. I am NOT a lawyer, but have dealt with enough of the Trusts to know how it works. And we've had a lot of NFA items transferred to local guys on Trusts without issues. Mark |
Good points . . . I'm going to forget the corp. route.
The trust route seems almost to easy. I'll ask questions after I research more. |
Hey all. I'm up in Gwinnett & I am considering SBR'ing somethings (perhaps have to AOW one item).
Where can I get more info on the Trust path? Thanks! |
I've had a lot of guys asking me questions about the trust route. I'll put up a FAQ or something at some point in the next day or two. Promise. I've just been terribly busy lately.

hey guys, im heading to atlanta for a class in inovember, traveling from florida.
Any problems with suppressors/SBRs in and around atlanta? |
Just make sure you fill out your 5320 to make ATF happy.
If you have some time to play, let us know. Mark |
Yeah, I will have to fill out the 5320 for the SBR. If i get my form 4 back before I leave, I might be lucky enough to bring my OPS with me to this class, it would be a shame not to be able to bring it... I have been trying to figure out a "legal" way to borrow a suppressor for a weekendif I do not get mine in time, pretty much no avenues of approach. Only way I could do it, is if someone in my class had an EXTRA suppressor they would loan to a stranger |
Which class you taking? What kind of can you want to borrow?
I am taking a class with Dave Harrington, any type of OPS inc can would work...as long as it is legal for me to 'borrow'
I thought that was a pistol-only class. Any slots left?
I've got Ops cans coming for two customers, but don't own any myself. Sorry. Mark |
I snuck in for sure, only 10 people I believe and the 10th dropped out. Saw an advertisement over on 10-8, being that its in atlanta, and over the weekend, and being with Harrington, couldn't say no. Yourself being a 07/02, is there any legal way for me to "legally" borrow a can? Would it have to be from someone in the class that happen to have an extra "can" lying around? |
No problem, birddog26. Sorry if some of my replies took a while, I've been working 16-18 hour days.
chromeluv, yes if I was in the class you could borrow a can from me. As long as I'm present, you are good to go. This isn't specific to dealers though.
Dave is a great teacher. Sorry I'm missing the class. Mark |
If we're showing off, I'll play too: There's another SBR on the way, I'll post pics later... |
