Hi, I live in El Paso and I am looking at a job offer in the Ruidoso area, with commuting from Ruidoso to Carrizozo regularly and occasional commutes between Ruidoso and Alamogordo. I've been to the area a lot, so I know my way around.

I've been looking at housing in the area and it seems limited and fairly expensive for what you are getting. Anyone have any advice or info?

Also, any info about the District Attorney's office would be appreciated, I've read some pretty negative stuff so far, so any other info would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Ruidoso is a great little resort town. A bit pricey, but still a pretty cool place to live. I have a small cabin in the Cedar Creek area that I am planning on retiring to in a couple of years. You may want to check out Alto or Capitan for housing. They are a less expensive and in between Ruidoso and Carrizozo.

When I bought my place I went through "Tall Pines" realty and they worked pretty hard to help me find the cabin I eventually bought:

I have not heard good things about the DA's Office, but all of that is from the local Ruidoso newspaper, so I can't confim it personally.....

If you are in to hunting, fishing, golf, gambling, horse racing, snow skiing, hiking, ATV's, horseback riding or anything like that, then this is the place to go in South Eastern New Mexico!

I'll avoid the negative comments on the office itself, but note that the Twelfth Judicial District Attorney's office seems to have a lot of turnover. They've been running an ad in the New Mexico Bar Bulletin the last few weeks, trying to attract in suckers folks from the civil side.

My recollection is that Scott Key, the present DA, is not running again. I know that there is at least one local defense attorney (a woman and a SASS shooter!) who's running for the job. (This info is from the spring, so I have no idea what the present situation is.)

The courts in that judicial district (encompassing Lincoln and Otero Counties) are located in Alamogordo and Carrizozo). They do not presently have a district court in Ruidoso - I can't remember whether they got the dinero to build one this last legislative session. The district court judges there are pretty good; don't believe that I know the magistrates.

Thanks, I'm a backpacking nut, which is why I'm considering the job, but it seems to have some big negatives- like housing, commuting, low pay, state income tax, negative stuff about the office. I'll have a look at those sites.

Please share the negative comments, I am one of the aforementioned suckers from the civil side, already interviewed. I've read a bunch of the negative stuff that has been published, anything else would be good to be forewarned.

They are hiring for the Carrizozo office (2 of 3 positions are open) but want you to live in either Ruidoso or Capitan. The commute is not doing a lot for me, nor the housing prices for frigging trailers, or the pay, or the income tax. I've got other offers and another couple of interviews this week, so I don't know about all of that and taking another bar exam too.

The pay down here in El Paso is much better, you can get better housing for cheaper, and I can still go and camp up there on the weekends.

We'll see.

Hey digrebel,

I'm in ELP myself.  If you ever want to get together for some shooting or a bite to eat let me know.

Sounds good, but I can't for the next 3 weeks, I'm popping in and out of town for job interviews and I don't have any free time. Maybe we can get an El Paso crew going and go shoot at Ft. Bliss and have some food at the clubhouse? I haven't been able to get over there since before the whole no rifle stuff.

You wouldn't happen to be a lawyer at large El Paso firm would you?
