Hopefully we can get a sticky for this.

All members from Texas or Louisiana that may be affected by hurricane Rita please sign in with member name and location and try to sign back in ASAP after the the storm passes.

Maybe we can keep track of each other and make sure everyone is okay. And if help is needed we might be able to help each other.

I did not see this in any of the other forums. I hope it's not a dupe.

I will also post this in the Texas forum.

Good luck all.

MikeS369 Lafayette LA

ETA,

I will be checking in from time to time to add people to a list I am keeping here at home. I'll keep checking for as long as I can, electricity permitting.

After this monster passes and I am able to get back online, I will list all members who answered the call. Once people are able to check in again I will add C/I (checked in) and something like "okay" after their usename. If we have not heard from someone I will add, D/K (don't know) after their username.

If someone else is able to get online before me, feel free to create the list.

Stay safe everyone and good luck.

Mike

ETA,

Alright, I finally got power!

Here's the list of those that checked in before Rita made landfall. Please re-check in ASAP. Happy to hear everyone that has checked in so far is okay.

Ricky in Carencro. Am currently out of the country and my wife is in east Cro with two young kids. She has lots of family to fall back on. Hopefully we will weather the storm. Came out alright in Andrew
and Lilly. Fingers crossed.

Paul in Westlake. Be riding out the storm here, working with LC Marshall's office. Go in tomorrow and don't know when I'll be back on. Wife, kids, and in-laws are outside New Orleans at family. Good luck to us all

Bugging in here in Lafayette... shouldn't be any looting here as long as my house stands. I'm Expecting (hoping) we get no more winds than we did with Lili.

Hunkering down in Indian Bayou. Doesn't look good at the moment, but I don't expect it to be *TOO* bad.
I'm figuring similar to Lilli ( I hope ). I expect to be without power this weekend. I also expect to be without internet service, so don't worry right away if I don't answer a roll call.

Sammy here in Gretna. Just got back from Little Rock and Houston
after evacuating for Katrina. Damn things keep following me ! We
should be ok here in the NO area as long as Rita doesn't track
much further to the east. Good luck to you folks further west.

Power's back on, a few missing shingles. AC is shot. Everyone's safe. Now i wonder if any of the oilfield ports will be open in the next week so I can work. I saw Fourchon is flooded. Cameron is probably toast. Itracoastal city is most likely flooded and Venice is still destroyed from the last storm. Hopefully I can find some work somewhere.

I made it through ok. Power's back, no flooding, no damage, the only problem is my refrigerator died.
Taking care of that tomorrow. I'm guessing that Cameron's toast for a while. Fourchon and Venice are
out. I was thinking probably Morgan City if anything in Louisiana. A number of our boats headed to
Mobile. No word on any of them, yet. Oh, Freshwater City is out, too.

Checking in from Carencro, LA. Power still out, cable came on a few minutes ago. Cable modem has a battery and we have a generator running, which is why I'm able to post. I've got pictures and stuff to share later on. Roof is fucked, barn roof is fucked, trees are broken in the yard. Other than that, not a whole lot wrong here. Could have been much worse.

Baton Rouge, we had some tough winds but nothing you guys on the other side of the Basin faced.

Some trees down on a garage here n there but nothing near to what it could have been or what was faced in Lake Chuck.

I guess I won't be playing cards at Harrah's in L.C. any time soon. Heard reports that the barges broke loose!!

I am in BR too, but my family is in Houma and some places in those parts didn't fare well at all.  My dad and a buddy of his took a boat and toured everything south of Houma on Sunday.  Every levy was breached and many places had as much as 6-7 feet of water.

Where are you in Houma?  Damn near my entire family lives there and I was raised there.  Just Curious

Baton Rouge here. No probs here other than a few scattered power outages. Looks like we've been real lucky with Katrina passing to our east and Rita to our west. But the season aint over yet.

Rode out the storm ok. Working days at my house, nights with the Marshal's Office. Been busy. I took off a few days to come see my wife and kids who left and came to LaPlace. I'll be going back sometime this weekend. There was a lot of damage, especially in the south LC area. Most of the tress and power poles have been cleared away on the main roads. Water has been restored to about 65% of Lake Charles. I live in Westlake and we've had water for the last 2 days. Still don't have electricity anywhere in Calcasieu Parish as far as I know. Tomorrow the parish will be open to the residents to survey damage, then it will be closed to all but emergency officials. I'll be checking for the next day or two if anyone has questions about this area, maybe I can answer them. Oh, Cameron Parish is pretty gone now.

Stay safe and good luck to all

Paul

Beaumont, Texas

Let's see...

120 foot pine tree on the roof.  Another tree got blown over and pulled out part fo the water and/or sewer line in the root ball.  Another ripped off the circuit breaker box and a lot of the siding from the back of the house.  No power, no phone, no internet.  Can't get the power restored until I get the box put back on.  Can't get the box put back on until I can find a carpenter to replace the siding.  Can't find a carpetnter.

While helping a friend cover some holes in her roof, I had a little accident.  Several broken ribs and a couple fractured vertibrae.  Not getting much work done.  Can't put siding back myself.  Sleeping is problematic.

Paid $3500 to have the tree removed fromm the roof.  Allstate cut me a check then other day, few questions asked.  Probably another $3000-$5000 to have the rest of the downed trees cleared.  Insurance won't cover those.

Neighbor got looted.  Ex-wife, who lives about six blocks away, got looted.  If you see a genuine preban Yugo AK underfolder for sale in the Beaumont area, it's sto;en.  If youy see a couple ARs with the 11.5 barrel and permanent 5.5 flash suppressor (a Bushy and an Olympic), they're probably stolen.

Sorry to hear about the problems there. Is the insurance going to cover the looting? I worked with a guy that got looted close to N.O. and his insurance Co. is telling him that its not covered.

Lake Charles.
Doing okay, returned here this past Thursday, got power back Friday. Water damage all along the rear of the house caused by a tree that ruined the structure of the rear of the house.

How bad is the rest of the town? Power? Casinos etc?

Most if not all of Lake Charles has power. The Isle and the new casino are up and running. Harrah's had major damage and the boats are now turned east and west. Things are slowly taking shape here. Just going to take time.

The power is on just about everywhere now. The cable T.V. lines are still mostly out (no big deal I got DSL).  The southern part of town got the worst damage (it's where I live), most of the trees are down and it will take over a year for sure just to dispose of 1/2 of them, and then there's the ones that fell in the forests that are no big deal till a subdivision gets built here and there. There are potholes in the roads where some trees fell. And if someone's house had trees around it, then the tree/trees is/are in theirs or their neighbor's house now, this is the general trend. Very few houses got lucky in the southern part of town. My second day back I went by bike to tour the damage, it was the only practicle way to get around and sometimes the only way except of course by foot.. It could be worse, it could be Cameron Parish that we could be talking about. I can't get down to Big Lake by car still. If you want to go down to Cameron, the best way is still by a shallow draft boat down the main waterways and beaching it here and there to tour the damage by foot.
