I need a restaurant recommendation.  I'm taking a client to lunch next week and the Texas Roadhouse will not cut it.  He took me out the last time to The Club.  Can anybody recommend a comparable place?  He's in the airport area, so I'm sure we'll have to drive a little.  any advice would be appreciated.

Off the top of my head (and some suggestions may not cut it):

Ruth's Chris

Ocean

Hot and Hot Fish Club

Bottega

Veranda on Highland

You could try Flemings. It's down 280 a bit at the Summit but the food is very good. Honestly, just about any finer restaurant will have better food than The Club.

Hot and Hot Fish Club

Highlands Bar and Grill

Michaels (so-so)

Ruth's Chris does a good steak but it is in the now ghettoed Embassy Suites.

Shula's at the Galleria/Wynfrey Hotel.

I knew I was forgetting one:  Highlands Bar and Grill.  Maybe Silvertron, too, as well as V Richards, but I don't know much about them.  There's also Satterfield's in Mountain Brook, and I'm sure there are more there as it's something like the 14th-most affluent communities in the country.

I vote for Bottega.
Or you could drive a little farther and go to The Bright Star in Bessemer.  Not in the best area, but it has a lot of character.

My vote is for AVO in Mountain Brook or Hot and Hot Fish Club.

Try the fish market.

There's also a really neat little Thai place in that little suburb near the zoo, but I forget the name.

Shula's is outstanding , better be a hell of a client for the bill though.

Bottega, Highlands, Rogue Tavern, Silver Coin, Daniel George, The Fish Market in downtown Birmingham or Jinsei in Homewood if you want awesome sushi.

If you want awesome pizza take him to Jim Davenport's Pizza in Mountain Brook.

That has become my Dad's favorite place for steak.

(I haven't eaten there yet. )

It's sort of done that for me; if I'm not grilling and don't mind dropping the coin (which becomes rarer as time goes on).

I never liked bearnaise until I tried it there. It's pretty good with their filet.
