Bought a beater police trade-in and had it refinished as a gift for a buddy of mine, whose nickname is Flea.  It originally had a 20" bead sighted barrel, but I picked up a 28" VR and supplied it to SA along with the shotgun.  In addition to refinishing, Matt Lilley at SA cut the VR barrel to 18.5" and installed a Hi Viz sight on the rib.

Here's a few pics:

What I posted is what I got from SA.  If I get some more pics, I'll post 'em up.

Nice. I've been thinking of adding an 870 to the collection. Didn't even think about a police trade-in. Got a good deal on my G23 that way, why not the 870. Where did you pick it up? Mind if I asked what you paid for it?

Looks great! I probably should get my Wingmaster refinished, but I just love the look of walnut stocks and blued steel.

Very nice.  I've got a beat-to-hell police surplus 870 that I need to get rebuilt and refinished, the fun part being a significant gouge in one side of the receiver.

A few years back Mr Pawn had some police magnum trade ins.  Only problem was the police kept the 14" barrels & put a 20 something polished vent rib barrel on them.  I picked one up for $225 IIRC.
After I picked it up I started looking for deals for the accessories I wanted.  I found a deal on a Knox recoil reducing stock, 18" tritium IC choked barrel & a Scatter Gun extended mag tube w/ sing mount.  I used Brownells spray on Alumihyde II in gray & black for a two tone look.  All in all I have less than $500 total in the gun.  Solid gun.

CM, I really like how the 870 turned out.  I very tempted to send him mine to redo my crappy spray & bake finish.

I got the police trade-in at Ed's Gun & Pawn/Public Safety.  Their supply waxes and wanes;  they might have 20 of 'em in stock, or they might have 3.  I've bought several there and they have all been good deals.

Prices vary, I've paid quite a bit under $200 up to over $250, depending on the exact model and condition.

I think that's the best way to get a 870, buy a beater at a pawn shop and make it your own.

Wow. That looks great. I love the cut vent rib barrel, and the wood too. If you don't mind how much does the coating job cost?

It looks like their site is down, and my 870 is exactly like that one.

Me and Matt did some tradin', wheelin' and dealin'.  Give him a holler at (770) 655-5324 and he'll quote ya a price.

I'll have to do that soon, my 870 is looking a little dated now these days.
