550B

Mike your welcome to try mine out anytime you want. I've got it setup for 9mm right now. It's a superior round compared to .45 but I'm sure you'll get the idea.

I use two Dillon 650's with case feeders. One is set up for .223 and I use the other for 9mm and 40.
I want a 1050 for rifle when I can afford it.

+1 for the blue cool-aid.  I've got a 550b that I'm very happy with.

That, and an ancient lyman 'spartan' single-stage press for the lower-quantity rifle reloading.

550b and a square deal b that is set up for 45. The 550 I use for everything else. Dillions are the only way to go.

Is the 650 worth the extra money over the 550?

Where is the best place to buy a (new) dillion?

Mike, these are the Midway PN#
 177340 RCBS Micro seater
 668734 Redding FL sizer die
319184 Redding bushing .337 neck sizer to use with Redding FL sizer
394805 Lyman Defer and chamfer kit
 729748 Lyman flash hole uniformer.

Dave. check with E-gun they have the 550B for $399.00 with conversion kit of your choice. The 650 has 5 stations VS 550B with only 4 stations.

I learn how to use the Dillon on "youtube", just type in dillon 550. One guy did a great job on 5 parts video from assembly the 550 to finished.

The 550 is a manually indexed progressive press. The 650 is auto indexing. If you want volume.....the 650 with casefeeder is the way to go. I can do about 1100 rounds an hour with my 650. I could barely get over 400 with the 550 and no case feeder. The case feeder on the 550 would be a big help but its a funky design. The 5 stations of the 650 is really no big deal to me. Unless you want to add a KISS bullet feeder. Then you up the capability of the 650 to about 1350 rounds an hour.

Tod, that's shit load of ammo in one hour(1,100)... That probably take me about a month to prep the brass and a few beers in between... But you're shooting about 70K rounds a year so the 650 or 1050 is the way to go. I can't even afford to buy the components at this rate.

Do you still have to buy the dies?

Once I get the press setup its full speed ahead. I usually sit down and load about 1-2k rounds at a time.Prepping brass is a whole nother story.

I use the Dillon RT1200 trimmer in a different toolhead and can trim about 1000 pieces of rifle brassin an hour. Its the chamfer, debur and crimp removal thats a bitch and takes a while. Even with the RCBS case prep center its a chore.

The 1100 rounds an hour is not hard when you've got 15 primer tubes loaded up and ready to go. When you have no reason to stop....its rock and roll.

Yes, I think you still have to buy the dies.

I still recommend the 650. You save a couple hundred initially with the 550, but what is your time work? Think of what you can use all those extra hours with when you use the 650.

Lee Loadmaster. Here.

Started loading on a Lee Classic press and I am still using it for prepping my rifle brass.

Once tuned in it works well.

Holy crap I need one of those, I reloaded 730 rnds of 45 acp over the weekend with my old lyman T-Mag.  Had to do it over two days.

For 45 a good used Square Deal B is hard to beat. I reload 45 a 9mm on mine wa tool head for each so the dies don't move much. Plus if all your going to do is pistol used ones are resonable.

Definitely.  I picked up a used SDB for cheap and have been churning out the pistol calibers on it for years.  Solid machine.

SDB dedicated for .45 acp.  650 with a case feeder for 9mm, 38 supercomp, and .223.  Rock Chucker for .308 for my precision rifle.  MEC for 12 ga.

Dillon 650 with casefeeder for 9mm, 45acp, and 223.  Easy to swap tool heads and parts to go rock and roll.  The best I've done is about 750 in an hour for 45acp and 800 9mm.  I'm still poor and running 4 primer tubes.

Go Dillon.  Can't be beat!

I'm old school using a Universal Hollywood Turret top that was given to me.

Currently I have dies for .357 Magnum, .38 Special, .45 ACP, .45LC.  Considering loading for 9mm soon.

I  use  the   Dillon  550b  also  for  9mm, .38/.357, .44mag, .45acp, .308, .223, 30.06, .30 carbine . I  am  very  happy  with   it.  It  was  loaned  to  me  about  10  yrs  ago  a  friend  was  moving and  had   no  place  for  it , I  keep  calling  him  he just  tells  me  if  I  am  still  using  it  Keep  it  till  he  needs  it,  My  reply  mmn OK . I do have 2 other single stage presses  I am giving  one complete  setup to another  friend  so  he  can  start  reloading.  HEY Whiskerz  You  can't  reload  with  Your  Dillon  laying  on  its side on  your  bench

650 for most stuff - production rate on average is 5-600 per hour without rushing (I don't try and set records).  Case feeder is the only way to go with 650.  Powder check capability also a plus imho.    Trimming with the 650 and the 1200 trimmer is around 1000/hr, same deal no hurrying.

550 still used for 44mag and 45-70.

good dillon info @ brian enos http://www.brianenos.com/pages/dillon.html

have a lee classic cast single stage for untility but nothing is loaded on it these days.

I'm finally taking the plunge and will start reloading in the next few months.  First step was to order a few reloading manuals so I can read up on the process.  I plan to start with 9mm and add other pistol and rifle calibers when I get the hang of it.  I also need to start collecting brass.  It looks like Dillon 550B is what I will be going with since I don't plan on reloading more than about 1k per month.

I may ask one of you if I can come over and watch you reload for tips/tricks.  I don't mind prepping brass or doing anything else to help out if you can show me the ropes.

Dillon 550B

I can load primers and 500 rounds in an hour.  That's enough volume for me.  I load 45 and 9mm.

Your more than welcome to come over and try mine I have a 550B and a few different calibers and componets to put them together and most all of my brass is prepped. I am on the southside  in Ellenwood and I don't work so time is not too much of a problem like in the evening. I have doc visits some days. Let me know  John aka Ruger2380

Thanks John.  I will probably take you up on your offer.  Let me read the manuals that I have first.  I live in SE atlanta so ellenwood is fairly close.

Lee pro2000, classic turret and turret.   Also have the lee shotshell reloader.

A conglomeration of them to do differant functions.   Sometimes we (buddy and I) both load at the same time on the same bench.  Two sets of dies for the important stuff.
