I have a 6.5 x 55 Swedish Mauser Model 96 that needs some work, the headspace is way out, the bolt face is pitted and the barrel would benefit from having the crown recut. Rebarrelling is probably the best option if I can get it for a sensible price. I know about Fultons at Bisley, does anyone know of other gunsmiths with expertise in old military rifles?

I asked a friend who does work on Lee Enfield rifles about this and he suggested you speak to Fred James at the NRA Armory at Bisley. Apparently he is very good at working on old military rifles.

Hope that helps.

What's wrong Mr Black Rifle Gunplumber? Are you chocking on a fruit based girlie drink?

Getting the headspace fixed is gunplumber work. Pratically everything else can be found here: surplusrifle His stock cleaning tricks are on the harsh side, but otherwise the rest is very useful.
