NORFOLK COUNTY RIFLE RANGE

Norfolk County Rifle Range, Inc.
4321 South Military Highway
Chesapeake, Virginia. 23321
Phone 757-488-9861

Norfolk County Rifle Range was established in 1947 as a private shooting club. Membership is available to all citizens that are not legally barred from ownership of firearms. NCRR members must also be current members of the National Rifle Association and the Virginia Shooting Sports Association.

Non-members are welcome as guests of members and at all scheduled events such as club meetings, training sessions or shooting competitions.

Gun Safety:
One of NCRR’s primary goals is to promote safe and responsible use of firearms. The club strongly supports the NRA’s three fundamental rules for safe gun handling.

ALWAYS KEEP THE GUN POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION.
ALWAYS KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL READY TO SHOOT.
ALWAYS KEEP THE GUN UNLOADED UNTIL READY TO USE.
Recreational Shooting:
Members are granted access to the club firing ranges after meeting the club’s qualification standards. The outdoor shotgun range may be used for trap shooting, portable trap shooting and patterning. The 25-yard indoor range is suitable for all common pistol cartridges, for .22 caliber rimfire rifles and for airguns. An archery range is also available.

Competitive Shooting:
Norfolk County Rifle Range sponsors NRA,  ATA and IDPA sanctioned shooting tournaments at the club facility in Chesapeake and at other ranges in the area.

Tournament dates are listed in the club calendar, in the NRA Shooting Sports USA and in the VSSA Bullet.

Members and non-members may also compete in weekly league-type competitions.

Periodic informal training and coaching sessions serve as an introduction to competitive shooting for shooters that are interested in entering formal competition.

Junior Program:
The club conducts an organized smallbore and airgun program for junior shooters. Safety, competitive skills and sportsmanship are emphasized.

Training Programs:
Several NRA-Certified instructors are members of the club and are available to conduct periodic firearms classes in accordance with professionally-developed lesson plans.

I don't like my options so far.  I almost died laughing looking at the membership fees at some of these places, 1250$, 1500$...  ???

We had cheaper outdoor arfkom friendly ranges in the old republik (NY).  I didn't come down here to pay a grand to be able to get some nice outdoor shooting done.

Any other NoVa (outdoor) options other than the IWL?

No NoVA options.  There are some decent options if you don't taking a day trip south or west.

The ranges at Fairfax Rod & Gun in Manassas are all outdoors.  Sure the initiation fee is alittle high ($1000), but after that, yearly dues are just $300.  If you consider the facilities and ranges available, it's not a bad deal.  The initiation fees go towards building such things as our new outdoor action pistol range (that's going to be fun), maintanence and up keep.  Next is to see about getting a carbine range built.

You're pretty SOL in NoVA for outdoor ranges without paying out the ass.   That's why I joined the IWL in Centreville- it's the best thing going within 2.5-3 hours that I can realistically join.

HEHEHEHE I'd rather wear headphones with 'sounds of the outdoors' and go to the NRA range.
I understand WHY the fees are high, and I like the concept of the self-sufficient club.  But that initiaition fee is ridiculous.  IT's almost like wealth discrimination.  300 bucks a year from how many members should cover everything from strippers to ice cream for a private club....

Nothing against that, just not fer me.  I know a couple of folk at IWL and looks like that's where I'm headed.

Wheatland Lane
Martinsburg, WV 25401

Hours of operation:  0900-1730

This is a 3 lane, 100 yard underground range.  They have 50 ft, 25 yards, and 100 yards.  They allow all pistols, rifles, and shotguns but NOT Muzzleloaders.  Caters mostly to rifle shooters, but you can get okay range time with pistol.  The shooting window isn't the best for pistols, but you just deal with it.

Cost is $3.00 per shooter, and 50 cents for 8 minutes of lighting in the tunnel, so bring a stack of quarters or get  change from them.   You can use your own ammo

I like Blue Ridge because they have a decent store...

But the range is only twenty lanes at 25yards, pistol up to .50 and shotgun slugs only. All bullets have to be FMJ or non-lead material, except for .22. No rifles, I tried!

15/hr for normal operation.

Yearly membership is 290, and with that you get unlimited range time whenever you want during business hours, as well as 15 percent off everything in the store except guns.

Blue Ridge will take SOME rifles (or is that carbines)

1)  Pistol caliber
2)  Some others (such as .223) if you use frangible rounds
