A lot of members like to shoot at Gibson. I believe partly because Gibson allows FMJ. |

Yeah, Garland does not allow FMJ.
But it is a decent outdoor range. I don't remember any range Nazis when I went there. |

where are you at in Texas ?
There a public range the N/Tx crew uses for our shoots in Tom Bean $3 per hr /per person If you can carry it and keep it on the berm you can shoot it

They allow FMJ for handguns, but not rifles. However, if they are "not busy" they do allow FMJ for 9mm ARs on the rifle range, and will sometimes let you use them on the handgun range (haven't actually pushed this issue yet)....

I went to shoot there 1st time ten years ago, guy behind counter hands me a form to fill out. I ask, "I just want to shoot one time, not get a membership, do I still need to fill this out?". Guy rips form from my hand, and tells me to vacate property. I know many others with similar experiences. The guy was a top-notch A-hole. Maybe it is under new management now, but I will never go back anyway. |

Garland said you have to buy a $10 membership and then range fees are always $10. Gibson was $6.00 membership and $10 each visit. |

The people at gibsons are very friendly, i have known the owners since 85 or so. I have heard all sorts of stories about the guy at garland.It,s worth the drive to shoot at gibsons, i am going friday myself. W.B.

Gibsons is located at 1712 Lawson Rd. in Mesquite that is between Hwy. 80 and I-20. Take 80 east from LBJ(635) to Lawson Rd and turn right onto Lawson Rd. The range is across the road from the race track. Phone number is 972-8127 or 972-222-6694. The range is open 7 days a week from 10:00AM to 5:30PM. Pistol range is 10 or 15 yds and 25 yds. Rifle range is 50yds, 100yds and 200yds.
They use to charge extra for the 200yd range and I don't know if they still do that. |

Does Tom Bean allow drawing and shooting on the move, etc? I shoot quite a bit of IPSC and a bunch of ranges around here dont allow that. Thanks for the FYI. I printed the directions last night when I read the topic earlier. Sometimes I work in Mesquite, so I was thinking if I brought some gear with me, I might shoot there. Firstar, thanks for the info. I will check it out. BTW, I have just recently relocated to Texas from New Mexico. |

Its an outdoor range with about a 50yd+ long berm, at least 12' high so yes you can Youll need to bring your own targets and stands though since the ones we leave behind get shot up pretty fast between shoots ( several Steel targets have been donated and seen their better days there ) |

Thats great news!
I have done many searches and never heard of the range. I have some target stands and plan on buying some portable steel. Mostly I just want to be able to set up some mini stages and practice drawing. Thanks for the info. See you at the range |

The range is open 24/7 ( within reason ) we go when we can on our own and hold group shoots at the drop of a hat. N/Tx group shoots are posted in here when ever we can get a bunch of us together. WHen we have a N/Tx AR15 group shoot Ralph gives us a discount also. $5 per person for the day |

If you live in McKinney, just go to Collin County Gun Range off of 380. They allow FMJ, and have a Pistol range, 100 yard rifle range, and a tac range. CCGR |

I have shot some IDPA at Collin county range. I just want to be able to show up and shoot, play with different guns. It is a bit pricey to stay there for 2 or 3 hours. KS |

I'd like to make it out there sometime. I'd also like to have a place to go that's a little closer to Dallas. 100 yds would be better than nothing, so that's not a deal-killer. |

There is a 300 yard range near Cumby.
Both Garland and Gipsons are good ranges. Garland is a 100 yard maximum. Gipson's has a 200 yard maximum. As mentioned before you can't shoot FMJ at Garland. Jim Day built the Garland range back in 1963 and there was nothing out there. Now the developers have put a lot of housing out there. In Jim's defense he must be very careful because some government agencies are looking at his business very close because of his close approximity to the neighborhoods and Rowlett Creek. There are a lot of people who come out there to site in deer rifles once a year. Some of these folks are very unsafe. I have seen it. He can be rather tough on some of those guys but they won't make the same mistake again. He has had some injuries and fatalities and he is just trying to be safe. One fatality was a woman who rented a gun, bought some cartridges, and went to the range to commit suicide. The other was an Army soldier who shot himself in the stomach while putting his gun away in the truck of his car. Neither were because the range isn't safe. He is really a nice guy who runs a good, honest and safe range. He also owns a range close to Austin. Give Garland a try. I like it there. The Garland membership is $10.00 for life. The Gipson's membership is yearly. |

actually if your careful you can stretch it to about 150. Its all in the placement . Youll see what I mean when you go there |
