That time of the month again.
The Hebrews come out with all their fancy assault rifles and leave their mark on the Mitchell Field backstop.
A good friend of mine who rarely gets to come finally got the chance.
Brought his Galil, HK 91, 6450 and 6520.
One regular brought a preban dpms car and a postban 16".
Another brought his 16" AR and 24" Bull bbl DPMS
.
Our two old timers were there, shooting .22's.
I brought two new builds, a cavarms based lightweight KISS and a postban M4gery.
bunch of handguns too, lots of money in the room so lots of custom jobs.
___________
well, as is more often than not, nothing goes like it should with a new build.
1)
the m4gery was great, zeroed teh carry handle, then a surplus M68....
....then it went two-shot burst.
first off, why isn't two shot burst more popular!?
Even with the surprise, both rounds went in one hole.
second, I had a feeling the disconnector spring I got in my LPK wasn't right.
it felt wrong (too weak), but function checked fine.
of course at the range after the two-shot I pop it out and the wide part of the spring is missing.
I could not duplicate the failure at home, but obviously am getting a new spring!
Nobody noticed cause we bang away the whole time,
but when I told them everyone thought it was very cool.
I told them to google: olofson
2)
my cavarms lower was a cavaid lower that I cleaned up.
while building it, most of my preban mags would not fit the magwell even with all the 'flash' gone,
so I had to open it up.
Luckily I was able to open it up enough to have ALL my mags fit and drop free and not be too loose.
Or so I thought.
Get to the range, and of course, I opened it up a little too much on the rear back portion and the mag would tilt front-down, bolt would push round into the wall under the feed ramps.
so if i grabbed the mag and rightit during firing it was fine, and the night wasn't a total loss.
I knew that was a risk when I was filing it down.
....but all is not lost.
I just swapped that lower with my 45 lower (a factory finished cavarms lowers) and everything's perfect.
the factory lower fits all mags fine, of course, and the one i messed up is now the 45 which doesn't need the regular mag dimensions.
(dunno what to do about my other cavarms lowers, they also don't fit any mags I have and obviously don't want to make the same mistake twice. I'm wondering if it could be my mags?)
anyhow, lots of fun.
the G3 is great at 10 feet. 1" groups!
one guy keeps bringing newbs which is cool, they always have fun.
I should probably do the same, but I really just want to shoot. alot.
