Does anyone know exactly how this is going to be done?

I heard last week before the bill was made public that you could only register a weapon if it was kept in your home, or on property under your "immediate control".

I Have a NYC home address, but keep a rifle that would have to be registered under this new damn law outside the city at a family member's house (because, you know.. I try to follow the law).

In your opinions, am i shit out of luck?

I know some people will say not to comply, but I wouldn't want to put someone at risk of prosecution just because they were kind enough to let me store property at their house, and I certainly don't want to bring an "assault weapon" into NYC. The typical NYPD cop wouldn't be nearly as forgiving as most upstate officers.

Registration doesn't have to be done until next year. You should probably wait to see how this plays out.

I am not a lawyer, but according to a new law you should keep it in your possesion and if you comply with that you can't register it, because that will incriminate you. You will have an excuss no matter what happens.

Could they tell you that since you can't register it at your primary residence, that you have to transfer it. I'm in a similar situation as the op as I too live in NYC, but I also own a house in NYS in my name.

Yeah, I'll be waiting till next year to register just in case this thing gets overturned, but it seems like most people are looking to fight the 7rd limit and 1 feature test more than the registration.

It is tempting to sell now if it's going to come to that, since it's a seller's market, but I really don't want to feel forced to give up legally bought property.

I can't keep it solely in my possession unless I brought it to my apartment in NYC, which I'm not going to do.

...And I don't want to leave it unregistered on someone else's property because I wouldn't want to be responsible for anything happening to them. It would also suck having the rifle but never being able to bring it to the range.

Trust me I would rather not. But if you took time to read my other posts you'll see that the rifle isn't kept on my property. I think it would be a dick move to ask somebody to hold onto something for me that the state sees as illegal.

I know this law is bullshit, but I don't think it's fair to ask somebody else to take any heat due to a situation I put them in.

I'm not sure why you posted this... I'm not even sure what your question is.  Sounds like you've already decided to comply so just read the law and do whatever it says.

As for me, I'd never comply.  There are things you could do but you're not willing to do it.

Couple of questions:

1) I don't have to register a stripped lower because it has no evil features, right? I mean I could build a featureless rifle on it.

2) If I do build a evil rifle on it in the future I could register it at a later date if I was feeling "compliant" right?

3) Can I separate the upper and lower on an evil rifle and remove the pistol grip from the lower and just keep them separate?  Maybe this registration nonsense blows over?

4) Could I just store them out of state in hopes this registration nonsense blows over?

I'm asking if anybody has info on the final wording for registration, since I'm storing my rifle on property that isn't my own.

As I said before I'm not jumping at the chance to do this and will wait this situation out, but being stuck in Bloomberg's city, I have a different situation than most here.

I'm not sure why you replied, I guess to posture from the west coast?

I don't have ANYTHING to be registered, but if I did, and I was going to comply with a law that makes further inroads against one of my rights as laid out by the Constitution, I would most definitely wait until the last week mandated, and then hope their system crashes due to the volume of requests!!

No, what would be a dick move is throwing us all under the bus.  Bury the thing in a fucking hole somewhere if you are that afraid of the law somehow magically finding your gun at another persons house.  I cannot believe there are people here standing in line right now to comply.

Again, I'm not jumping to comply, just trying to get a handle on what this registration process would entail. I thought someone might have an inside line...

As far as your accusations and chest thumping...

Neighbors by the house know I have the rifle, and over the fall the local mailman came around back to deliver a package while I was cleaning it, he didn't look too happy about it. There wouldn't be any "Magic" involved in word getting out.

Thats not even taking into consideration the the NYPD and BATF have routinely in the past gone through the 4473's of shops on long Island looking for NYC addresses, what's to stop them now with Albany's blessing?

...and about burying it in a hole, I'd never be able to bring it to the range which to be honest was the reason I bought it. It's never been kept in my home so it wasn't bought for home defense.

Besides, I thought the mantra of you guys was "If it's time to bury it, then it's time to use it"
