I will be going from Buffalo, NY to WA state and I would like to purchase a handgun along the way so I can protect myself during the trip. I am looking for a glock 23. I cannot purchase one in NY as i turn 21 2 days before i leave and the permit take 6-8 months. Would i be able to purchase a handgun in Minnesota?

You need a "permit to purchase" in Minnesota to buy a handgun.

AFAIK you cannot buy handguns out of your home state.

Damn, 6-8 months, that's rough.

Sorta.

You can purchase a handgun from another dealer or seller in another state, but, they must ship to an FFL in your state of origin. You must arrange for local (home state) delivery.

For the purposes of this post, this is true. You cannot acquire a handgun outside of your home state. It's Federal law. You can "buy" them wherever you want but a dealer (FFL) in your home state ("State of Residence") must transfer it to you.

I guess I should have worded my statement more clearly. The op wasn't asking about a transfer so what I said was accurate to what he was asking.

He cannot "purchase a handgun in Minnesota" as he asked.
