Im looking into buying a scope for my AR chambered in 556/223. I have been looking at the Bushnell AR/223 1-4x24 but it only has a 30mm tube and id like a scope with a 1 inch tube as i already have a 1 inch mount.  Trying to stay under $200 for the scope,  suggestions?

Primary Arms has some good inexpensive scopes. I think they have a couple that are 1" but I think most are 30mm. That price range doesn't leave you a lot of room to be picky.

What will you be using this for?  A durable, quality built scope that will be reliable for sub $200 will be difficult to find.  You could easily spend more that that on a quality mount.

Do your wallet and yourself a favor. Save up and buy a quality scope and mount. That way you don't have to do it again when your cheap one takes a shit . Seriously you can get into at least a Leupold for a little over double your $200.00 budget and they have lifetime warranties. This is not the place to skimp.

Check out the Leupold Rifleman series and the VX-I. I have the Rifleman 2-7x and I'm very impressed. At the time I bought it, my 24-year-old eyes couldn't tell the difference between the $200 Rifleman and the $600 VX-III series, but they all looked much better than the NcStar/Leapers/Tasco stuff.

There's also a 1-4 Leupold "Hog" that looks similiar quality (on paper).

They run about $220 new, but the quality is incredible.

ETA:
These are all in the 1-4ish range. The first three are $220-$230, and the last one's $450. I'm seriously considering buying one of the non-illuminated for my airsoft clone and throwing the illuminated one on my SHTF rifle.

I've shot NRA bullseye, USPSA pistol, IDPA pistol, 3 gun, skeet, trap, paintball, and airsoft. If you have a problem with that, feel free to fuck off.

Second on this.  It's a great price point and a great glass for the money.

Yep.  Has a 1" tube, too.  Just put the 3-9x40 model on my MVP Patrol.

I've got this Nikon on my AR and it's been a good scope: http://www.opticsplanet.com/nikon-monarch-3-1-4x20.html. Got it for way under $200, in like new condition.

^2nd that, I've got a Nikon M-223 that blows the clarity/glass on my Bushnell 1-4x24 out of the water, even though it's only 1".

I think I'm going to trade the Bushnell up for a Leupold VX-R this Christmas.

i have a nikon p-223 3-9x40, a p-223 3x32, and a redfield revolution 2-7x33. They have all three worked just like they were supposed to, the 3-9 is on a cz 223, the 3x32 is on a 10/22 and the redfield rides on my AR. Out of the three i suggest the redfield for a few reasons. It is made in America buy leupold, it has a lifetime warranty, i like the 2-7 power range, it is clearer and gathers light better than the nikons, and it does not have exposed turrets like the p-223 series scopes. You asked for opinions on sub 200 optics if that is your budget know you can get a quality scope for that amount of money.

This is what I have, simple. No light up do-dads or anything, just a low power scope. I usually take it to the deer stand with me with my big rifle. Use it on turkey, assorted small game and even 1 deer. Good enough for that kind of stuff out to about 200 yards. Would be fine for further out if you didn't need to be as precise. Optics are pretty good, not as good my my Nikon Monarch and Leupold VXIII, but decent.

I'm not sure I can ever bring myself to buy anything that has Bushnell printed on it ever again.

will move it to another rifle if I upgrade (ie Trijicon )

Got a Vortex 1000 range finder and love it.
