I sometimes get it from Gulf Coast Scrap Metal off of I-10 and the West Loop. Sometimes they have it, other times not, so call first. I trade in my bucket of copper and brass while I am at it.

Might try flashing for roofs.   I could have sworn they still have the lead variety out there, but its been a while since I have done any roofing.  The last time I saw it, it was in 50 lb rolls about 12" in width.  Scrap yard will be the cheapest though.

Never cast my own lead for shooting, so not sure if it would work for your purposes, but we have a local tire shop save all the used balancing weights and melt them down for fishing weights. We got a 5 gallon bucket full for $20.

I used to buy lead from West Marine.  Keel weights for sailboats came in 5lb ingots.  Any marine supply place should have a source.

Do you think it would be worth my time to take my metal junk out there, aside from the fact that it would help me clean up my garage?

Have you actually used these guys? I will have to check them out

Long time ago, they were big in the Greenwing program for kids as a part of Ducks Unlimited.

The size of your order may be an issue.  But hey, the phone call is free.

There was a bullet maker in Dallas thet they supplied the alloy for when I did IPSC.  Let me know what you find out.

Anyone casting lead should be careful of wheel weights these days.   A lot of them have enough zinc in them that from what I've read makes it next to impossible to cast usable bullets out of them.

Curious as to if you have casted before or not as the melting temps of zinc and lead are very far apart. It's easy to pick out zinc

From an allpy?  It isn't like wheel weights have distinct chunks of zinc in them.  Sure if you are talking whole zinc wheel weights...  but I don't think that is always the problem...

Anyway, if you don't believe me...

Wheel weights are either pure lead alloy(tin/antimony), steel or zinc, there is no such thing as an alloy lead wheel weight that contains zinc. The temperature difference between zinc and lead is almost 100F and that is very easy to separate out. I just throw everything in the melting pot and scoop out everything that floats at 630-650F If you do get zinc your lead it's not because of some hybrid, it's because you didn't watch it carefully enough.

Aperdue, have you tried C&D scrap metal?

In for the response. I saw a c/d billboard the other day.
