i may show up if it looks like there will be a decent turnout of ar15.commers, but i have to work at 1PM that day so i'm not sure its really a good idea for me (even though we finished up the last one around 11:00am i was pretty worthless the rest of the day)...

I spaced the last one out so I plan on at least stopping by this time.

What are the engagement ranges for the rifle portion?

markm,

The distance on the rifle portion varies from match to match, mostly 25-300 feet.

Ok, fill us in a little - What's needed 4-6 mags for rifle - Vest/bandellero for shotgun ammo - Sneaks/boots for running? Loose fitting clothes - Water - what else is needed?

.223 ok for rifle or should it be heavier caliber - what size for shot (trap loads - high base 6's what?).

Knee pads needed or what can you give a general sitrep of what you guy's carry/use.

Thanks for the heads up - oh and what's entry fee?

Okay! I'll make this one. AR10A2 Carbine and Remington 870. Although I told myself I wouldn't do another one of these without a Benelli M1 S90. I'll get one someday.

Do we need to check in anywhere or just head to one of the ranges?  I've never done been there!

Whose vehicles should we look for?

The match is held on the practical pistol bays and the high power range.  You have to purchase a score card from the match director, then you can head to any stage you want.

I will be wearing Khaki BDUs, a Khaki MOLON LABE hat, and MOLLE gear, I should be easy to spot.

Since your the only freak out there wearing BDU's.

the thing is, i'll be wearing all my freak gear too, but even if Russel showed up in jeans and a Tshirt, he'd scare children (and most adults).....
see y'all bright and early....

I got stuck with my son this morning.  It looks like this is a monthly thing, NO?

I just can't really expect to get out there and have fun if I'm babysitting.  I'll shoot for next month's match.

It's $3 to get a score card and $1 per stage after that. There are 2 rifle stages and 2 shotgun stages. You can shoot the stages as many times as you want, just pay $1 each time. One of the rifle stages will have targets out to 200 yards and the other will have targets from 2-50 yards. You will need slugs for the shotgun stage. You can engage the slug targets on the shotgun stage with a handgun instead but you will receive a time penalty. Time doesn't matter anyway, it's all for fun.

I didn't mean it that way.  My woman switched her schedule and didn't tell me.  I was counting on her watchin him so I could enjoy the match.

Well, I went today and had a blast - shot bad and wasted ammo but had a great time - Need to get back into practicing w/ guns not keyboards...By the way wasn't too hot from 8:am to about 10:30ish during the times I was there.  Bet I was at the bottom of the scoring...now no where to go but up.

Knee pads helped and I drank a gatorade & 2 bottle of water myself -

Next time I am thinking I will use the scope instead of the red dot - did see quite a few guys with scopes & dot sights both mounted on the same gun (best to me was little tasco dot on top of scope as the ones that had dot sights mounted on either side of scope just didn't look that handy).

Kinda sad I missed it but...had to buy ammo at the show today, plus, I need to save some extra $$$ to go paintballing with some buddies up in the Springerville area for a few days.

I hope to come to it some time, maybe next month if you all are lucky

BTW, I have a scoped 20" AR, an AK that I'm putting a red dot on, and a Winchester 1300.  Think all that is good enough for the match?  And would a 75 round drum mag be a good idea?

You didn't need drum for stages I shot but you could have used it I suppose.

LR Stage was long range 5 metal targets that were out from 100 meters to 200 meters and you shot them once from 1 area then again from another - you also had paper targets in closer 25 yards or so. (30 rounds or so)

Short Range stage was 18 paper targets (some head area only) from 2 yards to 35 yards and you had to shoot each one twice so that's just one mag change with w/ either 20 or 30 rounders.
(36 rounds min)

first Shotgun had stage with 8 poppers w/ 5 paper targets (slug) so you had to reload but it helped if your shotgun could hold eight rounds in magazine & chamber and you didn't miss a popper (ie hit but didn't go down unless you hit center of mass or higher with many pellets) and you were able to carry 5 slugs in easy to get at spot. (13 rounds)

2nd Shotgun was with 4 metal targets hiding behind obstructins then move to barracade box and shoot 6 more then next box for 4 more metal targets and somewhere in there you had to do 2 slugs into paper at 20 yards or so.  (16 rounds)

Was a nice course of fire with steel, paper from close to medium long range - I used red dot but think it would be wiser to use scope for longer range unless you have good vision.

My son and I were out there watching for a while Saturday morning. Looks like a lot of fun. My son is interested and competent with his Colt M4 and his Glock 34 but is only 11. I was wondering if there is a minimum age to be eligible to compete?
