Oh boy, after reading through some of the threads I'm not too sure about this  I'm coming from Alaska.  I've had CCW for 10 years, own tons of MG's, and now looking at moving to Cedar Rapids.  I guess I can sell my MG's and live without them  But what about all my semi stuff?  Any restrictions on weapon models, mags, ect?  Registration?  I see if I want to buy a new pistol I need a permit...guess I'll stock up before the move
BTW I'd be moving for family reasons & not a job reason.  I do enjoy the state though, I was raised here & love to boat, fish, ect.  Iowa has some really nice people, but these laws suck!

About the MG's or any Class III item, talk to Booger-Hooker, he is one of our resident experts on that subject.  Correct me if I'm wrong group, but pretty much if it is a semi auto, you are good to go in Iowa?  I know that there is no limit on mag capacity.  For your CCW, I don't know what it's like in Cedar Rapids on getting one.  I would hope that since you have had one for 10 yrs it would be just a matter of taking a CCW course and you'll be able to get it.

Welcome back to Iowa and welcome to the Iowa forums.

CCW are given by the Sheriff.  I believe the sheriff of Linn county is going to retire soon, so I don't know what the new one will like or who it will be.

Always glad to have another shooter.

I lived in CR for 3 years when I did my undergrad.  I may be able to help you out a little bit.

Your semi auto guns are fine as long as they're not SBRs. Check out www.iowacarry.org if you'd like to get some info on Linn county. I hear he's not very reasonable, but if you own a business and carry over $500 regularly, you're in.

Wisconsin looks to be about 75miles away and ok for NFA, would that be close enough to help/be with your family.  If not you could find a place to store your NFA in WI and visit it as needed.

Ask on the Iowa CCW forum, www.iowacarry.org/forums/ they will know if the sheriff in your area hands out permits, the CCW permit is also a handgun purchase permit, if no CCW for you then the Iowa permit bypasses the federal NICS check.

Lived in CR for awhile myself, and if the above statement is true, things might change.  Otherwise, the current Sheriff only issues if you can prove you have a need to carry "Large sums of money". A person's life is only worth $500 in Linn Co. He also prints a list of all CCPs in the local paper once a year.

Getting a permit to purchase in Linn County is easy. Just fill out the application. They will do the background check and send you your permit in about 3 days.
I just got my CCW in Linn County (Cedar Rapids area) as well. I filled out the application and they signed me up for the classroom session. In the reason for "justification" you must use the reason that you often carry large sums of cash. They will ask you how much and you must say at least $500.
You must have a background check, pass the class, pass with at least a 70% at the range, get fingerprinted, and wait 3 days for your permit. It's not as hard as most people have said. But..... you have to state a reason you often carry large sums of cash.
When you get your permit, it will state that you have to have a minimum of $500 on your person for the permit to be valid.
They state right on the applilcation that self protection is not a good enough reason.
It seems that protecting your cash is more important than protecting yours, or another persons, life.
On another note, In Iowa, most semi autos are fine as long as you meet the minimum barrel lengths on carbines. 16" on rifles and 18" on shotguns.
Just no NFA stuff unfortunately.  Oh how I wish you could.
Anyway, if you move, be safe and stay in touch.

MGNiko I seen one of the M-60's you're selling over on Sturmgewehr...VERY nice!  I can only imagine what the others look like that you're not selling yet.

2 more are standard models, 2 are E3's, and 1 is an E4

i'd have no problem babysitting your MG's for you while you're in Iowa.  I'm right across the Mizzou in Omaha.

....or, if some sort of extended payment plan could be set up, i might be willing to buy one.  we'd have to work around E-4 "income" though.
