I've got an interview tomorrow and just realized I can't remember if they are okay to carry on post or not.

Also with the exercise starting tomorrow, what should I be expecting when getting a visitor pass and going through security?  Been forever since I've been on post.

Good luck NP. I would have hired you if you would have worn the "Outfit".

Why do I keep hearing 'Bring out the gimp!' when I read that

Thanks. Just a part time gig doing FFL stuff for AAFES but it is a start to getting back on my feet. Plus the senior associate pay isn't bad lol. $16-23 an hour is more than I made busting butt at the hospital. Here's hoping.

Ha ha. Really, Good luck. Still waiting for you to come on down.

Got a new 22 can and 10k rounds of ammo.

Just leave it at home for the interview, but I have never had an issue

You will have to have current registration, drivers license and current insurance card or they will not let you on
Otherwise plan for 10-15 min depending on how many people are in line and it easy

Thanks UAF.  The knife thing was more of if I get the job, than anything.  I figured getting on post was the same, just wasn't sure if they were doing anything crazy because of the stuff they are going to be doing.

Just crossing my fingers I don't get tagged for extra searching if I can't get the rubbermaids out of the back of my 4Runner in the AM.

I'm still really leaning on moving that way if I can find a way to work it.  Like I said, closer to the doc while still being in AK is a big benefit.  Same with warmer winters, etc.  Just got to work it all out.

Kind of sad, but in my adult life I've never been to Juneau, Kenai, Seward, Homer, etc.  Hopefully that'll be changing soon though.

No worries with carrying a pocket knife on post.  There is no FWA policy letter that addresses pocket knives.  Additionally, the default position for us will more than likely mimic state laws…so use that as a guide too. That being said, if you elect to carry an eight inch bowie knife and someone complains, we will be producing a policy letter shortly thereafter that addresses knives :)  ....so carry (your pocket knife) with confidence my man.

Does that include automatic knives which are against federal law (for most people)

I asked that very question a few minutes ago because I carry one (benchmade) every day.  There is no policy letter that addresses knives, knife blade length, style, or operating mechanism.  But like I said before, it would take only one complaint to start the process to evaluate what is/isn’t appropriate in regards to knives.  That being said, I use my open assisted folder often to cut up my lunch and no one has ever batted an eye or made one comment about my knife.

Good to know.  If anything, I'd be carrying my micro razel with a 2" blade.  Great little box knife.

Off to the interview here in a few.

Btw, good to see you are still around Carl.  Was wondering if you had taken off and I missed it or something.

I was scheduled to depart this year, but got lucky and eeked out another year here at FWA.  I'm scheduled to head to the lower 48 (temorarily) next spring.  As soon as I retire I'll be headed back up here, unless I can get the Army to send me back up here before I retire.

Okay, I guess the last I heard was you were going this year.  Sorry your last summer has been smoky shit though.  Least you are coming back though.

Just got home.  They seemed pretty impressed.  The website got the pay scale wrong, ($12 instead of $16) but I'll still take it if they offer.

Well, apparently in 14-30 days I'll be gainfully employed when background checks complete.

Not sure if wanting to fill my gun safe counts as "productive" by most groups, but I'll take what I can get.  Christmas presents will hopefully be filing paperwork for my first SBR's

Short term, there is no way I'd be able to justify or pay for cans.  They are on my list, but got pushes a few years back now.  *shrug*  First things first:  Disregard women, aquire currency.
