You might look into some of the public hunting areas around... mostly archery only.

If you want to gun hunt then you have to pay to play, there are plenty game ranches around - some better than others
Some more expensive than others. I noticed one ranch was offering a white tail buck, white tail doe, one hog and all the varmints you wanted for a reasonable price.

Google "Texas Hunting" and it should provide you with a good variety.

I think you can hunt on some public property around lake georgetown?  seems like you could years ago.


herein lies your problem.  not much public hunting lands in Texas.  and with what some people are getting on hunting leases, everyone thinks their little plot of land is worth a fortune.

a buddy of mine actually has a lease about 30mins from our neighborhood in n austin.  he pays a good penny for it, due to its proximity, even though it hasnt produced anything really big (yet).

I should add that you should look into getting on a lease... it is expensive (initial cost) but in the end it is great to
have a guaranteed place to hunt every year. You put a little into the effort every year and after some time you have a really nice
place to hunt every year. Just a thought.
