I am going to be in Palmer this weekend and heard about the gunshow at the Fairgrounds is it normally any good or will it be a waste of my time and money? Basically how does it stack up compared to the Patty Center shows in Fairbanks?
It is hands down the best show in Alaska.
We will be there, heading down Friday afternoon. |
thats what I wanted to hear. I will be sure to stop by and say hi
How far is that from Anchortown? I will be over for the weekend .
About 45 miles from Anchorage If the roads/weather are good less than an hour, if they are bad, well.... We have been doing this show for atleast 10 years now and it always is the best show in the state, IMHO |
If you tell me what you are looking for I can look for you Providing that the hotel has an internet connection I can post it here for you Chris |
I'll be there this morning (Sat.).
I've got long hair and will be wearing a "Peace through superior firepower" shirt if you want to say "Hi". |

I just got back.
Saw Shadowblade and had a chat. Spent some time at the AMGA booth talking to Roger. Didnt see much ammo. Saw some British SS109 in bandoliers -$120 apiece The Wolf ammo I saw is a lot cheaper at Sportsmans whorehouse 179/1K .223 Not much surplus ammo at all-some .223 tracers at 50 cents apiece pretty much all calibers available-even some 7.62x39 loaded with 308 tracers!! -mexican match for sure. Few guys with ARs all about 1200 or more- too exspensive if you ask me. Most of the ARs I saw were target models or AWB versions Every kind of hunting rifle you can name, new and used. Some good deals if your looking for one Ton of hunting optics, new and used. Not many "Tactical" scopes Overall It was a good show in that it was mainly guns/knives and not a lot of jerky and crap. It has been the best show I have been to up here (only been here 1 year though). I feel the internet has pretty much destroyed any good deals to be had. You can find them but they are few and far between. I was disappointed in that there were no dealers with good deals-For the most part it was/seemed to be collectors. YMMV |
It was a fuck fest for sure
Had two guys say Ill give you XXX dollars for that gun. I agree and then they say, well let me think about it. Had two guys offer about 1/3 less than wholesale cost of firearm. Then they got pissed when I said no. Did one trade, ok for us and guy was very happy, so all in all good. Terry "Ammo Guy" was here with all of his ammo. There was a Searcy 470NE double for sale (9K). I have never seen one before, so that was kind of cool. AMGA had a nice display of MG's. Made me drool to say the least. Saw a Leica 1200 Scan rangefinder that I would love to buy. Kicking around how pissed I think SWMBO will get if I pull money out of the account. Didnt see many "Good Deals". Several AR's as mentioned above for $1200+. Once fired brass at $1 per piece. Used Glocks at nearly $600. And the "deals" kept coming. AR15 members stop by our table for Glock deals. I have 2 NIB Glocks (1-G21 and 1-G36). $500 and you walk out the door with it. Chris |
You didnt say you were going to have a table. I would have stopped by.
Well at least he had 2000 rounds less to carry down there then he would have last week!!! |
No good deals on Ammo.
No good deals on Mags. No good deals on black Rifles. No good deals on anything. I can find everything cheaper on the internet or at local stores. Although one guy had Smith and Wesson knives for 20 bucks. Show was packed with people on Saturday, so packed you could barely get down the aisles. Prices were jacked on everything. I said last time that I had learned my lesson and was not going back to another gun show in Alaska, but this time sealed the deal for me. I won't be going back to another one. All in all, waste of time. |
Damn, that sucks. I went last year and thought the same exact thing.
AR Mags @ $30 ea (Can order off the EE for less than $10 shipped)
Used AR's at $1200+ (But it's preban) Remington Sendero (fluted) that had a shitty camo job and looked like it had been to hell and back just under $1000 (but the camo job makes it custom) Used Mossberg Mariners that had seen better days at $350+ (but they're tactical) SS109 Ammo 10rnds on a stripper clip for $20 (But its SS109) 5.7x28 Ammo $45 a box And the list goes on and on I had a little bit of money in my pocket and the only thing I found to buy was a $5 hat for my daughter |
Back into my rant mode...
Do people at the gunshow (many with very nice guns) understand that in Alaska Pre-Ban doesnt mean shit. We have no AWB here. So why on earth do they jack their used shit up 25% over new cost because it was built 12 or more years ago? Why do people buy shit at Sportsmans Warehouse/Fred Meyers/Great Guns/ETC, leave the price tag on it and bring it to the gunshow with a new price tag asking more? Why on earth would I buy used and opened powder (almost all there) for $2-5 a pound more than what I can walk into Sportsmans Warehouse and buy a new sealed can for? The guy with the used Glock Mags at $30 ea. WTF? Winchester 94's 30/30's that you have had for 10 years, have seen the bootom of your boat for the last 8 years are never going to be collector items. USRAC closing down shop doesnt change that. AMGA folks... Why oh why do you have to bring all of that cool shit to the show. Do you realize the response I get from my wife when I say Honey I know what I need. All goes well until I tell her how much. Thanks guys for being such a tease |
Last year's show I saw a Century Arms FAL for $1000. Did not know if I should laugh or swear. Don't think I will be going to any gunshows up here anytime soon.
The AMGA table was the best one, and they werent even selling! I told myself this was the last gunshow I go to up here, but, when the time comes, I'll probably go again. I suppose next year we might see some of the cool new stuff that is becoming available now, FN PS90, FS2000, Sig 556, AUG.
One guy had a USP .45 marked, and priced, as a Tactical, at least noone bought it. Makes me kinda glad I got my FFL, at least I dont try to rip off myself. |
Thats exactly what I am talking about, I saw some of the same shit you saw too. Its ridiculous. |
I shot my self in the foot by not checking hometown before heading. out. Stopped by and was pretty disapointed overall. Didn't see more than one range finder there(one of the few things I wanted.) Highlight of the day of course is stopping by the amga which is always fun to talk to those gents. I talked to roger about showing them how to blow icebergs up with a .50 and he just laughed and patted his little 1919 acting all tough.
Was nice to talk to terry(ammo guy) about some .50cal slap rounds that i had. Terry if you are on here and could send me a pm I might have an idea that could make us both happy on 20 slaps? anyway the black rifles were few and far between nothing caught my eye as I want that now. Very few repeaters that weren't 30.30 I wanted the 45 70 but that was just not there. Got a good laugh at the poggy specialists at the army recruiter asked them if they really gotta shoot those big machine guns. He could clear that saw or 240 if/when his life depends on it. |
You people crack me up. I was selling guns so fast, I didn't have time to look at the rest of the show. Guess I was the only one with the good deals. I did one trade and sold around 15 guns, methinks. Haven't finished the books. There was one Remington 788 there for $300 that I didn't get back to in time. It was cherry. I snoozed.
Surprisingly, I didn't sell a single shotgun. Blew my mind. Hopefully I'll sell more at the next show. If not, I'll put up a post with what I have and link here so locals can get them first. Sad, I hate to leave but I'll be back in 4 years. Next show is in one month. I plan on marking EVERYTHING that I have down at that show. I'm moving to North Carolina and need to get rid of lots of stuff. I normally have pretty cheap prices, but this will be 'clearance' for me. |
Post the stuff here first and you might sell it before you go to the show.
Did anyone else talk to Roger about the minigun they are trying to get. He didnt give a name , but said a individual is in the process of getting one, 285K. I'll buy some ammo to run through it
holy crap...no he didn't mention that to us. 280k is alot of cash. wonder what round
Damn Some people have all the money I would pony up $100 if I could run the ammo through it. $100 should get me oh 30 seconds of trigger time. Has anyone seen the video from Dillon with the twin GE Miniguns Holy Shit did that look fun |
Which table was yours? |
Yea, you might as well post here first, less to carry to the show! |
I stopped by and said hi to uafgrad but when I was walking away I realized I didn't say who I was and he probably had no clue it was me.
Chris I was the dork that asked you about that upper I didn't really see anything that I was really interested in at least nothing that made me want to stop for more than just a glance. |
LOL I knew who you were Just still half asleep |
Thanks for the great thoughts on the AMGA display. I didn't make Sat but had the 30mm out there on Sunday for it's first public display. It's still a work in progress so go easy on me.
Well HECK! Don't just drool. Come out to the meetings and get involved. <G> The great thing about the club is that you don't have to own all the toys to get to play with them. If you look half interested (or bring ammo) at any of our shoots you'll have a gun in your hands in no time at all. If you're looking for ammo deals - the AMGA just closed their group ammo buy. Probably too late for this order but it's one of the main perks of joining the club. I have no idea when the next one will run though. Usually about once a year? Matt ww.amga.net |

Whenever I post, it'll be after the next Palmer show. I don't have any time between now and then.
My table was the second row over, directly in front of the entrance to the snack bar. Three red tables in a row between Gun Traders and that guy selling the LED flashlights. I should be in the center of the AGCA show too. |
Well I am the Roger that you spoke with.....Don't remember talking about shooting iceberg or patting the 1919 (which is owned by another member of AMGA) I had a barrett 50 cal and would have loved to talk about shooting 50 bmg into ice.....yeehaw!
The AMGA "Tables" Had a little bit of something for everyone. Just remember that all those Military Surplus riles were ALSO part of the display! That was a whole lot of history on one place..... Every thing from 1891 Argentine Mauser to HK21 Belt fed. At the very least ,we got to display our toys and let others enjoy them as well. We picked up some new members as well!hat
I had an M1 Carbine with the "ask before you touch" sign resting on it. More times than I could count guys would walk up, take the sign off the gun, start playing with it..... and then you guessed it. "How much you take for this" It was comical! That Carbine got more attention than a porn star in a high school locker room! h As far as the high prices... Hell everybody marks their stuff up because they know you are going to haggle over price with them. In my experience most will bargain.... The true beauty of the show is the rare stuff that shows up there. Like the Nigerian BM-59 I was drooling overhatI just move on...... and see what new treasure awaits three tables down. The other shining point, especially if you are an exhibitor, is the comraderie and friendships that are made. I make new friends and gian knowledge every time I attend a show. And yes... I even find bargains at the show! Usually two or three things I can't leave without. So for me the Gunshow experience is all good. |
The AGMA tables were certainly a high point of the show
On Sunday there was what looked like a 12x12 block of steel with a barrel that was probably 10 feet long What was that? Looked like it would make a loud boom. To those that brought your very nice toys out, educated the public and most importantly tolerated the knobs who either cant read or just have no respect, THANK YOU. |
The 'chunk' is my work in progress 30mm GAU cannon. Here are some pics:
www.amga.net/30mm When I'm done it'll look like this: http://users.multipro.com/brentandloriann/ Something about having to tow a gun to the range just seems damn cool! <g> Matt |

Would have sworn the person I was talking to was roger. maybe not. My friend was talking about getting a semi auto 1919 and he was showing us the beauty on the table. I will jump on yalls website and find out any more info I can. I know quite a few guys here would love to shoot and would love to come buy and share toys. |
Nick,
my e-mail address is on the website. Mark has his 1919 on display. That might have been who you were talking to. No problems though....Just like to get as much information out there. If your friend has any questions about buying a 1919, feel free to contact me. Roger |
