Well, I was not expecting that !!

The rifle I fell in love with and impulse bought - only one manufacturer making ammo for it and at £2 per round.......................or so I thought

Well, the dealer was slightly out on the calibre - its 6.5x53r and not 6.5x54ms. Both same really just one is rimmed and other is the modern version. I have the 1899 one which is rimmed.

Which means NOBODY makes ammo for it

So, an enforced venture into reloading beckons. Dies already ordered. Midway UK want almost £4 per case - yes you heard me right !!  £400 for 100 cases.

Luckily my US contact can get me new brass for a fraction of that.

Firstly - this thread is worthless without pics!

Secondly - I knew there was a reason that I used modern calibres...

There's a few threads on the interweb about forming 6.5x53r brass from .303 Brit or .30-40 Krag cases by running the cases through a 6.5x53r sizer die and possibly a bit of neck turning. The .303 case has a .455" dia. rim, the 6.5x53r is .450" If you've not reloaded before it is starting at the deep end!

Yes its a Dutch Mannlicher. 1899 vintage. By Gibbs of Bristol.

Yes it has wood and yes it will burn - but its in a certain gun plumbers hands at the moment so dont be giving him ideas.

Putting on a period scope.

Yes, making brass from .303 is possible but as has been pointed out, deep end for me.

Have found new brass quite reasonable elsewhere on the interweb.

Pics as soon as it gets back to me all scoped up.

You want to put a nice black synthetic stock on it, then you can burn the wood and save on heating bills!

Henry Krank advertises this size in his "Bertram" line of cases.

http://www.henrykrank.com/bertram.html

Slide down to page 4 of 5 to see. (mind they're still £2.20 each)

Lucky you didn't buy a .700 Nitro Express - cases are only £22.00 each

An exceedingly old German scope - probably inter war years.

Got a few of those cases from Krank.
