We have a house rented in Oak Island for a week in April and was hoping I could get some local perspective on things to do. Looking for advice on restaurants to hit, outdoor activities, things to do with kids, etc. We used to live near Wilmington and the beaches so pretty familiar with the general area but never spent much time down at Oak Island. Probably not too interested in heading into the Myrtle Beach madness either.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

[#1]
Bar-B-Que House
Swain Seafood Shack

Over in Southport:
Provision Company
Southport Smokehouse

or drive to Calabash

About the only entertainment is Putt Putt -
could try
Shallotte River Swamp Park
USS North Carolina in Wilmington
Aquarium at Fort Fisher and then go see the remains of the fort.
There is also Ft Caswell on Oak Island
Or if you feel like a day trip - go to New Bern about 2 hours away and see Tryon Palace - not sure about operating hours for the Wubonic Plague.
