My DFL neighbor and I have had some good discussions over beers and grilling. Very blue guy but also owns a G17 with lots of hi-caps. (go figure)

Well, he shared with me that the DFL are NOT going to get a  gun-control (magazine cap or AWB) started this session. Basically, if it doesn't happen at the Fed (Senate or House) then its not coming our way... yet.

I asked him if he loves his wife enough to get rid of his Glock and he just winced ...

But he knows higher taxes are on the way.

you can bet your ass rep. paymar will try again to close the "gunshow loophole".  look in past sessions, he always introduces that bill.  i'd say thats about the only bill that might have traction and thats because he's the chair of the publice safety committee, which his bill would have to go thru.

Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk is an iron range DFL'er.  those iron rangers are pro-gun.  i'd be pretty surprised if he let a AWB or something similar get thru the senate.  metrocrats would sell us down the river in a hearbeat if they could, but them outstate DFL tend to be pro-gun.  THANK GOD!  doesn't mean we should stop emailing or calling our reps. or senators.

I wish that they would waste the entire legislative session on gay marriage.

History has shown us that when it comes to pissing away an entire legislative session and getting absolutely nothing done, this topic does it like no other.

My source (a DFL senator) talked about new taxes on clothing, attempts to legalize pot in order to tax it, and online sales taxes.  See a trend here?  I agree they are convinced they need to raise taxes, and won't want to spend a lot of time on an issue that will cost them the rural Dem votes that they need to stay in control.

The MN-GOP certainly made a mockery out of their time in charge by wasting precious time on ... wait, spending more?

I would rather pay their salaries to go sit in a hot tub and drink themselves stupid than pass another spending bill. Regardless of which letter is next to their name.

With Gov. Dumbf*ck at the top, there is little hope of getting anything reasonable from the leadership.

FYI. Heard David Dill (MN House rep on the DFL side) on Davis and Emmer yesterday that there is no way that anti gun legislation will get through the state legistature this session.

He said he is working with the state GOP and will block anything in committee.

thats good to hear about Rep. Dill.  I read an article today where we should expect an AWB bill, hi-cap mag ban bill, "gunshow" loophole bill to all be introduced this session.  just like I said Rep. Paymar WILL be introducing his gunshow loophole bill again.  so these bills will be introduced, it's just if they get hearings or not.  Sen. Bakk said he would look at bills that could truly make a difference, but if it wouldn't make a difference, he's not interested in those ones moving....what i hope he's saying is...just plain anti-gun bills ain't going anywhere, but maybe a mental health thing or making it harder for felons to get back their gun rights, those might move along....

I could see them trying to push a mag ban ..... divide and conquer!

I was told that a couple DFLers are making proposals...  Sorry, I have no intel other than that.

Ann Rest and a couple others are trying to get a mag ban on the books in this session. DFL leadership have signaled they are as likely to do that as hand the House back to the MN-GOP.

Exactly... There is no way the militant OWS lefties in the metro DFL will give up on this.

Dayton is NOT on our side with this and never has been.... And the AG is drooling at the chance to get a gun ban under her belt.

What scares the crap out of me is the complete and total apathy from our hometown board members to even TRY and get involved.

So many would rather sit and home and count their mags and then profess how they agree with OWS and vote Ron Paul for Emperor of the universe.

Voting Ron Paul didn't do anyone any good last fall and OWS wants to ban guns... but its up to those of us who ACTUALLY CARE to do something about it.

I work fairly closely with the numerous lobbyists for my industry at the state capitol, and all have indicated with Democrat control of all three state branches of government, taxes will go up. The only question in their minds is which taxes will go up (or be new).
