"To cut suburban sprawl, Seattle should increase its population 60 percent by the year 2040, Mayor Greg Nickels says in a recommendation to regional planners.

Nickels favors the most aggressive of four growth scenarios envisioned by planners, one that would add 350,000 people to Seattle's population, which now stands at about 575,000.

Nickels says the growth can be accomplished by allowing more apartment and condo towers in some parts of Seattle, while still protecting single-family neighborhoods."

As I've been sitting in ever increasing dead-lock traffic - I had some time to ponder this enlightened vision...   I kept asking myself, why would someone want to pack themselves tighter together?

Most people avoid crowded living, but I'm sure he can sell this to the enviro-wingnuts.  So, why?

It's easy to write him off as some utopian-goofball but politicians are too practical for that...  Then it hit me.

He's packing his base.  He's packing his coffers.  As urban sprawl drives us into the suburbs to get away from the stink, he cuts the roads and forces you to live next to your employer.  To him, the roads are draining his power.  If he can sardine us in, we're bound to come around to his line of urban living...

Crafty bugger...

Cities are outdated. They are relics of the industrial era and long ago when people needed protection from invaders. Now we need protection from the cities. They import food, water, natural resources and they export garbage, toxic waste and dirty air.

Seattle is sucking the entire state dry of tax money to support it's growth. And for what? To increase it's tax revenues.

As far as mass transit goes, they'll never get around to it. They couldn't even extend the Monorail. They'll have to build subsidized housing to get anybody to live in the city.

I hardly ever visit Seattle, anymore. I go to the VA hospital and take the express lanes back to Northgate, avoiding as much of the city as I can.

It used to be a friendly town, now too many people treat me like I'm just in their way.

I propose 400,000 illegal immigrants and 200,000 katrina refugees.  Then they would have to hire 1,000 more police to just deal with the "refugees."

As an aside, I deal with a lot of illegals in South Park and we have several "refugees" living in a SHA apt. building behind our Pct..

I would take a 1,000 illegals for every 1 "refugee" that I could get rid of.  They were here for less than a week and we knew all their names from them committing crimes.  These include burglary, armed robbery, assault, and some misdemeanors as well.  Nothing like knocking over a few 7/11s and gas stations with a sawed off shotgun to get to know the town.

I think this is a good idea. If the people who worked downtown actually lived there they would not be getting in their cars and driving home to the suburbs, tying up traffic. I don't think they want to bring people into the city who work in the suburbs. The suburbs would not be as crowded. They are turning into cities themselves.

No matter what there will be population growth. Do you really want that to be in your suburb?

I'm not sure that people who work downtown would be willing to live downtown. Anything that gets built will have low income housing assigned to it. It'll be tough to sell people on the idea. People move to the suburbs to feel safe. Anybody who feels safe in downtown Seattle is in denial.

Too late. Have you driven through Frontier Village within the last 10 years?

Anyone who feels unsafe in downtown Seattle has likely not been to any other "cities".

Guilty, I moved in 10 years ago.  The place has become more urban than Everett. According to the Sheriffs, there is a higher population density with over 4,000 homes within one mile of the Hwy9/SR204 intersection. They have four deputies to cover the area on the weekends, two during the week.

4K homes and only 2 cops on the weekend, what a B&E paradise.

It is not quite that bad, that area is City, and County. depends on what side of the roadway you are on...The deputy's dont have it that bad, the City cops get most of the calls in that area, and they have more in numbers. These deputys also work the Mt loop highway  and into arlington. Most of the structure in that area is Condo's and business's (Alberstons, Target,Safeway,Burger King, Ace hardware,GI-Joes,McDonalds, Taco Time...on and on and on...) then the main roads that lead into that area are State Routes ( that means that WSP is the main responding unit  for anything on the roadway) So there are plenty of Cops...In fact lots more than in most of the other areas of the county.

Ummmmm, there are a lot more homes and yards, than condo's. This place is the congregating point for all the kids in the area, with the fast food and retail businesses. Maybe I get a distorted view because they bring all their detainees by their condo office before running them into county. They keep all the stolen stuff they're trying to get back to the owners in there, before it goes downtown, never to be seen again.

Im not saying you're wrong...

Im saying it is not so bad as far as the numbers of police avail to respond to that area.

I keep waiting for this to spring up somewhere. Maybe they could do some like the old kahuna's did and bury Sims and Nickels under the cornerstone.

I have said that for a awhile now, both him and Ron Simms are doing that. The more people they can cram into Seattle and into the Liberal, Socialist mindset the more elections they will keep winning.

BULLSHIT I live in King co and to this day I know of no intelegent person that would vote for the stupid MF. Something is rotten in King co.
