Is there enough interest in doing another New Years Day shoot at Hite Hollow?

I'm in if I can arrange my housing a few days earlier then tentativly planned.  I was planning on moving back to Virginia the 6th or 7th of January, but since I am driving, it is no worry, I haven't got a problem leaving a week earlier. I've been trying to decide when I want to leave, and a little incentive like this might tip the scales.

Sounds good.    Will be nice to finally make it to a shoot.   Maybe my FAL will be in by then too.

Looking at my schedule, I will be 100%, assuming Virginia Tech doesn't end up in the Gator Bowl.

That Saturday, New Years is on a Monday.  If we go to the Peach Bowl you have no excuse to miss the shoot.

Clueless as to where  Hite Hollow is, at the moment.  But I have a month to find it, and decide then.

Don't suppose you could mark it on that map we signed up when we joined could you?

Be very helpful if you did.

Thx

It is between Lexington and Staunton.  Look up Augusta Springs, once you get there turn NW onto Stuart Knob LN and follow the signs.

I like it.  I might even make this shoot.  I'm not much of  college football fan and stopped watching the New Year's Day bowl games years ago.

See what happens when my internet connection dies for a week?  People post the ideas I had.  I'd be up for it but I probably won't shoot much .223 (I go a little overboard when I do that).  I'm still trying to get a police job and my income is limited right now.

Did you have anything in mind contest-wise?  I'd still like to do a "tactical bolt-gun match" one day.  I wanted to do it down at VBF II, but not enough people brought bolt-rifles.  Since Hite-Hollow is what, 175yds? that's probably the longest public range we have.  It might be nice to do a little course of fire there with some sniper-style targets and such.  I can post what I had in mind if you're interested.  MJD

Let's do it.  Should we put any caliber restrictions on this?  I don't know.

Here's some of what I was thinking about for a course of fire.  We each get 5 rounds.  There will be 5 targets at varying distances from 100yds to as far away as we can safely get them.  The targets will be partly obscured by obstacles, and "no-shoot" targets.  Penalties will be assessed for failing to hit the target and an additional penalty will be incurred if the "no-shoot" target is hit.  I'm still thinking about how score this event, but I'm sure I'll figure out something.  I'll post more info once I figure it out.

Since it's your shoot I'll be sure to work out the details with you.  I wouldn't want to come in and take over the show.  MJD

Dude, not "my" shoot, all I did was give everyone a nudge with the cyber elbow that we all need to shoot on New Years Day.

West End range would be far better for bolt gun fun and it is not up hill like Hite Hollow.

My bad on the name, it is West Side Shooting Range.

From my understanding it is 100+ yards.

Sunday is good for us too! [;)

But if Range 4 or 305 is open at Quantico I'll be there.

Can I nominate the Low Moor public range in Covington?  :) It is 150 meters or so.  ETA it will be saving me two or three more hours of driving after driving from Idaho during the last week of december.  I'll be cutting it close to make it either way.

At this point, I believe it is best to keep the shoot at HH because most people know the drive by heart and it is usually vacant, allowing bump firing and tannerite.

I am still scratching my head over the Sunday vs. Monday idea.  I am free on Sunday so doing it on Sunday wouldn't bother me.  If the people who said they could do New Years Day could do it on Sunday vs. Monday then I would be all for it.

I am going to edit the thread title for people to post either Monday or Sunday.....

I already posted my opinion, but I'll just emphasize that we can't hunt on Sunday so that's a good shooting day.  Monday, we can hunt and I don't work.  I know where I'll be.

I reckon the overwelming desire is to have it on Sunday.  Hope you can make it.  Just remember shooting takes priority.

I don't usually like to do this, but I was wondering if there were going to be any garands present.  I really would love to fire off a few rounds through one.  Been looking to buy one for a while, but have never shot one before.   I will replace ammo if need be.   Thanks.

If I can make it, there'll be a Garand there.

In any event, get one several - you won't regret it.

+1 on the Garand.   They are a thing of beauty.   I have not gotten one due to other gun priorities but plan to one of these days.   Will just cost more then.

I would like to try out an Aimpoint.   Never used one of those.

On a side note I have a little over 10lbs of tannerite.   So how much can we set off at once?   I am partial to a 5lb JFG coffee can full.   Holds about 6lbs.    Nice bang.
