Thank you! If she has any constructive feedback for us, I'd love to hear it! From mrs tinythief, we had late lunch there.
If you want true, authentic Malaysian food, the name, "Satay," is already an inviting indication of what will be in the menu. And I don't say this lightly. Having been to South East Asia with my Singaporean husband, Satay Malaysian restaurant exceeded our expectations.
As I readied myself to order from the lunch special, my eyes began submerging themselves into the menu. No complicated words, no made up Americanized food, clear explanations, and literally every major succulent Malaysian dish: Pineapple rice? Beef Rendang? Laksa Noodle Soup? ??
It only took us two minutes to decide. "We'll get everything on the menu." However, because of biological human limitations we decided to go for a Grass Jelly drink, Laksa Noodle Soup, Fried Fish Curry (Flounder), Bak Kut Teh, and of course, Mixed Satay.
In no time at all, our table looked very impressive. We glanced at the glazing Satay almost fighting for it, despite the fact that we ordered two plates. It was one of those times I wished for more than two arms. Chopsticks in my left and a spoon in my right, the fish melting in my mouth. The Bak Kut Teh took me back to the Singaporean neighborhood shops and the Laksa soup was a creamy delight.
The service reminded me of the Nonya girl, incredibly attentive with a heartwarming smile, but also giving us independence to talk about the food.
Now you might be wondering, "did you eat it all?" Ya betcha! I came prepared for Texas sized portions. Didn't have breakfast just for this moment. By now, I'd be ashamed to confess to third degree devouring, but this is one of those times it would be a sacrilege to regret. I did take some of the Bak Kut Teh home for the Satay relapse.
Don't believe me yet? Two minutes after we left, we went back for the fried ice cream.
Having been to Mamak and Banana Leaf in Bellaire Blvd, I can say Satay is the best Malaysian restaurant in town. From the ambiance to the service to the food, this is a solid 5 star hero. You know it when you hear others standing by the door, thinking out loud, wanting to go back inside.
