So I just found out I need to get some prescription glasses and I was planning on getting sunglasses since I really only need glasses to make things at a distance a little crisper. Only really need them for driving/outdoors. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions for what type of tint I should get so that they will work for when I am driving but also would work good for most conditions for shooting at the range and such. What I have been thinking is more of the brown tint. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

So basically I want my sunglasses to darken up sunny days but not so much that I can still wear them on cloudy days. Thanks

I had lasik, and it has worked out very well. For minor vision problems, might not be worth it. But after having to wear glasses/contacts for 18 years, it was well worth it.

How long have you had vision problems? Some would argue that if it's a recent issue, glasses may only act as a "crutch", and cause further degradation of your vision. If it's a short term issue, might be worth waiting things out to see if it improves.

Revision eyewear! There's a 30% off coupon code in their industry partner forum too. They have shooter kits with the exact brownish tint lenses you mentioned.

I think it has slowly worsened but my numbers are only -.25 and -.5 for my eyes. I figured I would get sunglasses because I am much more likely to use them. Since the eye doctor visit I do notice more the blurriness at a distance more albeit small.

Sawflys from revision... Industry partner, z87.1 safety glasses rated, will stop #4 birdshot ,  amazing customer service ( i had a lens crack changing to the yellow lenses for riding the bike at night after I had them a few months and they shipped me a new one free, no questions asked),  the ability to use clear lenses as safety or riding glasses , Or yellow or orange if you want....

Revision is where it is at.

I take it you use the lens inserts? How well do they work? I was issues ESS glasses (very similar) when I was deployed. Still wore glasses at that time, and the inserts for ESS were unusable. The glasses were decent, but when you used the insert, you had to bend the lenses. So rather than looking through the rx insert straight on, they were curved, and you had major blur/walleye vision.

Hopefully Revision designed theirs to avoid this. It drove me nuts.

The Brown tint works great.  I think its better then the grey.  That said Polarized lenses, color is second choice.  Only ish I had/have with the brown tint is it affects your perception of colors more than grey does.  My current lenses are grey.  The next pair will be brown again.

If your thinking about glasses with a Rx insert - TRY them first!  Some frames have the inserts too close to your eyes.  For most folks, Your Eyelashes hit them and drive ya nuts.

I have used every tint, color changing whiz bang combo out there.  Not all brands but I got in to prescription shooting glasses so early my optometrist was excited about it as it was new.  I used them for shooting, fishing/boating, hunting, driving, daily life, you name it.

The hardest thing to make work in a combo is driving and shooting.  Driving you want polarized by day, clear at night.  Shooting you may want day, night, fog or all three.  Boating you want day and night and fishing you want polarized.

I am not familiar with the product Garage mentioned but he nailed it on what you will need to do.  Also, you won't be out $1k before you find that out.  I am about to update some of my glasses and I am going to look at those myself.

FYI you absolutely do not want those shit lenses that only change when hit directly with UV light.  Complete crap for driving.  I use a pair of Wiley X Bricks as general purpose glasses when outdoors.  They change from dark to clear, great for long days in the field or shooting, suck for driving in the truck but I have multiple sets of glasses for different uses and as backup.  I only wear for distance and can drive without them if need be but not ideal.

PS I assume you are not a big shotgun guy but works well for rifle or pistol does not translate well to shotgun sports.

I ended up ordering some wiley x glasses w/ a gray/brown tint to the glass, no polarization, so we will see how that goes. Thanks for all the tips.

Brown polarized - they are also good for not having to take them off when you go inside briefly; gray tend to be too dark.
