Ok, my dad needs to buy a new reciever for his FN-FAL. not full auto. I am assuming you have an FFL, If not, i would like some advice on where else to go. So larry, if you read this, can you order it. We would be out to see you this weekend(10/22/2003) to pay, and order it if you can. It would also include installing a barrel and one other change. If you cant, please let me know of a good company in town.

on a side note, do not say Spurlocks. I will never give them any business from my friends and family ever again. Why you ask??

Some of you might remember my dads FN-FAL that we brought out on my first DBS shoot. Had a FTE problem which was narrowed down to a chamber wear problem.

Here is the story.

My dad bought a FN-FAL kit at a show, then ordered a receiver thru spurlocks. Then he had them install the barrel. NO biggie right. wrong. The first time we went to DBS we brought it, and got a FTE because the chamber was worn out. so my dad buys a new barrel, and takes it back to spurlocks to get them switched. 2 weeks later my dad calls asks if its done. They say nope. they cant get the barrel out. He wanted to take it to a friends shop in boulder city, and try. No luck there either. 3 weeks later, we finaly get a call saying they have it back in the shop, with the old barrel still stick in the receiver.

So last weekend we go to pick it up, and notice alot of damage to the receiver. The cocking handle wont go all the way forward, and the receiver is concave. I was already upset with there chraftsmenship because they couldnt get the barrel they put in. Understandable, because they have to be tight. But the kicker was the fact that if they got it out, the reciever was screwed anyway. So now we have to buy another 230 dollar reciever. They didnt offer us anything.

One thing that showed that shop is bad is because he handed us the receiver/barrel, and when we asked for the other barrel and breach block, it took then 20 minutes to find them. They we turning that place upside down trying to find it. once they find it, they hand it to my dad and walk away. not another word said to us. Man i was ready to start yelling because there was no sorry, nothing. They wouldnt even acknowledge the fact the original reciever was toast.

So, larry, if you see this, please let me know ASAP. My dad wants to order saturday, and since we shoot with you, and you build full auto.

This is why you seek a competent FAL specialist.

It's obvious that these hacks who ruined your receiver dont own a receiver wrench.

I would also doubt the "worn chamber" idea. Chances are your FTE is caused by lack of gas, a worn out gas system (especially in G1 kits), or gas leakage around the gas plug, block, and tube.

Improper headspace also can cause FTEs if insufficient and case ruptures when excessive.

actually, we can prove the barrel is bad. about half way down the case of the spent round, there is a bulg, and at the bulg there are hair line cracks. but towards the front, and rear of teh chanber, they are the same size, according to the mic.

We were gonna buy from larry, but the last time i called, he was doing barrels, and so i left my number, and never got a call from him. oh well.
