Putnam has a town center filled with shops, but unless you are coming from the tip of LI it'd be a haul for you.

Gotta go to where the Artys Fartsy people hang out. Greenwich, Westport, Fairfield, New Cannan, Ridgefield, Kent, Litchfield and further up the shoreline along US1 Guilford,Madison, etc......
You can try United House Wrecking in Stamford It's an antique place but hold on to your wallet. There is a large number of antique businesses in Fairfield County in the yellow pages. Just a word of warning this is the GOLD COAST and antiques will be EXPENSIVE! |

Woodbury, CT, where I grew up, has more antique stores than anything else. It's a town of about 8000 with over 50 antique stores, and there's also a decent flea market on saturdays. Books have even been written about antiquing in Woodbury....

Up and down the RT7 corridor is loaded with shops. Kent has a couple nice places to eat lunch as well.

Around RT-8 and RT-44 in NW CT has a lot of shops as well a good number of places to catch a nice lunch.
