Do I have to have a pre-ban AR/AR Mags/Pistol mags to be able to come to a 3-gun match in New York?

yes, anything made after sept, 94 that holds more than 10 rounds is illegal in ny unless you are leo.  I believe 3 gun matches use 10 rounders in ny to keep things fair, but don't quote me on that.

your ar can be post ban if you have one without evil features. yes your mags need to be pre ban if holding more than 10 rounds. Also you must transport pistol  unloaded and out of reach of vehicle occupants. Also make sure you have some sort of shooting match announcement/schedule with you. If stopped and found to have guns you have to prove you were on your way to a shooting match as that is the only legal way for a non resident to have possession of a pistol in NY.

What does NY consider to be evil features?

I was interested in going to the West Point multi-gun match, but really don't want to have to reconfigure my guns to be able to attend.

same as the federal ban that sunset essentially- no telestock, flash supressor or bayonet lug. I am sure someone would let you borrow a rifle if yours is not compliant. pistols are the really big problem- a recent match I went to was " sanctioned as a special tournament by the nra" to allow shooters from outside of NY to legally bring pistols into NY state.

It isn't just any match that it is allowed for... it must be an NRA approved or IHMSA sanctioned match, you have to have a copy of the match program, proof of entry, and your license from your licensing state. The gun cannot be loaded, and must be in a locked container. Ammunition should be (although I'm not sure the law is clear on whether this is required for ammo...) in a separate locked container as well, nothing inside the cases should be visible from the outside. You also cannot travel into the state more than 48 hours before the competition.

Pretty sure this doesn't apply to NYC at all.

I agree with Daytona- best bet is to contact match organizer for advice- the safest bet would be to see if you can show up and borrow gear- that then runs afoul of the NY pistol permit law. If the match is sanctioned by NRA you should be good to go. Another grey zone just to make this more complicated if the match is being held on a military post it being a federal facility NY laws do not apply. they would the second you leave the  military base however
