Quoted: I couldn't have said it better. I don't smoke, but this is freaking ridiculous! There are over 2000 smoke free restaurants in Austin, and there WERE only 212 establishments where smoking WAS allowed...but not anymore.
I feel sorry for the business owners who are going to get hammered over this. I can only imagine what this will do to "The live music capitol of the World"...
Little Berkeley on the Colorado strikes again, shooting itself in the foot with ignorant bliss. One day, when the music is hard to find and everyone talks about how great 6th Street used to be, then MAYBE the socialist ass hats will realize just what they have done. Nahhhhhhh, who am I trying to kid, the socialists NEVER will understand that they were the ones who built the gallows upon which they stand and that they tied the noose around their own fool necks.

I have to contest the idea that they're socialists. They are do-gooder social engineers who likely have severe problems managing their own lives, so they have to turn their attentions to public policy and screw that up.
I believe there to be a difference, because many of the musicians around here have socialist tendancies, and they know that they are among the first to be impacted. When nobody comes to see the show anymore, they likely won't get booked again.
People have been poisoned by the idea that they have to think about "what's good for society", but then they don't think it all the way through.
Another facet of the problem that I discovered the other day, is that somehow people judge the law by "the good it does", instead of the bad it does. If you are looking to judge laws by the good they do, then you'll never ever find a bad law.
The rest of your statements I agree with, Dave.
