Yipee, he's made it!
Can he legally own a handgun? I dont mean purchase one, but can I give him one?
What about a longgun, broken down stored in his vehicle?
Are there legal issues for a 18 YO w no record to own or have in his vehicle that I should be conserned about?

Thanks

As long as the long gun isnt accessable to the passenger compartment its ok. I wouldnt leave it loaded but you dont need to break it down. He can purchase or receive a handgun from anyone but an FFL or out of state seller.

I know that by federal law this is true. However, I'm not sure by state law if an 18 year can own/possess or open carry a handgun. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks.

In VA, an 18 yo can own and openly carry a handgun.
Last year, 2 young men were stopped, and unlawfully detained by FCPD, for open carrying in a Starbucks. VCDL got wind of it, and everything got straightened out. One of the young men was 19.
