TGIF and my day couldn't have ended better than getting a call from my gun dealer telling my that my rifle just arrived ... here are some pics -

Standing tall.

She's very well balanced; not front heavy like my LMT piston MRP and POF .308 carbine.

Love that FDE color - matches my multi-cam rig!

Another view

I'll be mating my Elcan to her tomorrow morning.  Can't wait.....

Very nice!

Is that gold or FDE?

 Very cool. SCAR ftw

I personally would have to go with the black one only because I have never understood why they cant get a somewhat closer color match on all the different components.

Nice gun though. You will have fun with that!

Thanks for the compliments guys....

The color variance is much more obvious in photos.  According to FN, FDE is supposed to have a smaller heat signature as compared to black and was the reason SOCOM selected it.

Anyway, it's pouring outside right now and I thought I would clean the rifle before shooting it, as the owner's manual instructs.  First off, I must say I'm impressed with the take-down procedure.  Aside from the retaining pin for the trigger module, which requires a little fine-motor skill, everything else is pretty much removed only with gross-motor skills; which IMHO is an advantage in a SHTF/battle situation.  Come to think of it, I would relate field-stripping the FN SCAR to that of an AK-47.  Big, chunky pieces - no tiny little parts.  Personally, I like it ...

What stuck me almost instantly was the balance of the rifle.  I really like the way its weight is distributed; more towards the back - but hey, that's just me I guess.

EDIT: The receiver is milled to accept the charging hanndle to either side, awesome option ... and options are always a good thing in my book.  No gas blow-back to irritate the shooter, especially with suppressor use and the gas-regulator even has two settings, 12-o'clock for normal shooting and 10-o'clock for suppressor mode.  Either position is achieved by the simple twist of the regulator.  I own two LMT MRP piston rifles and one POF .308 piston carbine.  While I like them very much, the FN SCAR system is, to me at least, a vast improvement over both other piston platforms.

Here are a couple more pictures detailing my new toy.

The BCG is somewhat reminiscent of that out of a G36, including the beefier extractor on the bolt.

Good stuff.

What a pile of crap.  I hate to see a fellow arfcommer, let alone a member of the WA HTF have to live with a crappy rifle.  Go ahead and ship it to me for proper disposal.  I'll even pay the shipping.

Isn't that the AK Concepts Brake?  They work REALLY well even if they make it difficult to bump.

They are great rifles, but you may want to ditch the P-Mags. They kinda suck when there is dust flying about.

I use mine in Practical Rifle competitions and the P-mags bugged the crap out of me. I am using 416 mags now and they work a lot better.

I only got the 416 mags because they get dropped a lot in mud puddles and in the gravel.
The factory FN mag is in the pics.

So how exactly did the Pmags fail again?

The P-Mags didn't fail.
When combined with dust, dirt, and having to change mags quickly, they hang up. The aluminum (and HK)mags) drop free.

I think it is because the lower receiver of the SCAR and the P-mag are both polymer.

If all you are doing is blasting away in a rock quarry, then P-mags will work fine.

I like the P-Mags in my ARs however.

EDIT: I re-read my original post. I does look like I am saying P-mags suck. That is not the case. They just don't function well in a dirty SCAR.

If you go with the Emag, the fit isn't quite as tight and it functions alot better in the SCAR.

For one in stock ... hmmm, let me see ... I would reckon anywhere from $3,200.00 - $5,000.00, with high $3K being more the norm.

I recently got a couple of accessories for my SCAR and thought I'd post a few pics ...

Got my SCAR a tactical two-point sling

Latest offering from Surefire - the Mini-Scout (standard mount shown, Larue QD mount not installed yet)

Only $20.00 per container ...

One box of Larue's 'index-clips' is more than enough to cover two whole rifles

Close-up of Larue's 'index-clips'

Surefire's Mini-Scout is awesome - weighs only 4ozs, is $100 less than the full-Scout and still packs a whopping 110 lumens!

She still needs a tactical two-point sling

My second SCAR spots an ACOG TA01NSN w/tandem dual-RMR

I'm planning on doing a rough zero at 25-yards tomorrow

Cheers!

LOL.

No I'm not a US government employee, although I was ex-military of a foreign Asia Pacific ally; I just got a little lucky with gold and silver when the price was much, much, much, much lower.
