I have the opportunity to move to NW Oklahoma or SW Missouri after Sept. 2013.



Wanted to ask how to find how much (acres?) and where I'd need to buy land to shoot off the property.  Ideally I'd like 10 - 20 acres but if I need to look for more I'd like to start looking now.

Have friends with 5-10 acres that we have shot on their property. I would think you would need to find land outside of city limits with the correct layout to shoot safely, then build up backstops to trap bullets that pass through paper or miss your steel targets.

The size doesn't matter much; it's about how it sits and what's beyond. I used to have just over one acre, and we had lots of shooting there. It had a high creek bank, backed by woods, and beyond that was a quarry.



Think about topography and safety, rather than size.

So there aren't any local laws on how far away from a city etc?

City laws would be for within city limits, meaning how far from cities would generally mean you can't shoot within the boundaries of the city. You wouldn't want to be too close to a city though, in case the city expands and you suddenly find yourself inside city limits.





Outside of cities, it would be county law. (Incorporated vs unincorporated, townships, etc.).

My property butts up to the local city and I have zero problem.

And, they will not be incorporating my property into their city limits as long as I own it.

I thought if the people in the city voted to annex you.....you were pretty much shit outta luck?

Other way around people in the county would have to vote to annex into the City.

Where I live there is always a faint rumor of them wanting to join St. Louis county but the city itself would have to vote to do it and that includes the people.

You'll like Missouri, we have better gun and alcohol laws than Texas.  Depending on what area you need to live in in the SW you'll find there is still some affordable land as well.
