Never tried on cats, but two opossums that crossed my backyard never went back home. I think another one I have in .25 cal would do a better job. Not so wicked as this one with a night scope but can deliver a nice punch. Here's a link. www.straightshooters.com/beeman/bds12.html However, if you want to be sure. I suggest getting a 9mm cal.
