My job is being the buyer for a hospital pharmacy. That means it's my job to acquire all the meds for our patients, no matter their current (lack of) availability status. Occasionally our Social Services dept sends home indigent patients with a month's supply of meds and rarely are those meds cheap. However, they are cheaper than keeping the patient here for that same month, so it's the lesser of two evils.
Yesterday I was presented with a rather lengthy list of rather expensive meds to acquire for a patient including at least one med that is currently unavailable. But that little detail falls upon deaf ears with the Doc, so I get to spend forever on the phone trying to acquire the impossible. Ain't my job grand sometimes.
Today one of my staff members inquires as to whether the drugs have all arrived. Of course the impossible one is a no-show, so now I get to hop back on the phone for a while and figure out why we got shafted.
And now to the point of my rant. As my staff member was inquiring, he paused to tell me "if it makes you feel any better, all this is for an 'undocumented person'".
I told him that I'd have been far better off NOT being privy to that particular detail. Thanks a lot .gov.
