My family hunted there through most of the '80's and '90's.  All of us got deer from time to time––my dad, son, step-son, and me.  We usually hunted the central areas, but there are deer everywhere.   I think a couple areas we hunted were 18 and 27.

My brother and I were drawn for Big Oaks this year.  We've hit the lottery for that hunt 3 or 4 times in the last few years.  I got a six pointer on BO last year.  I got drawn for Nov. 13th-14th, but we won't use that draw since both of us have places to hunt on opening weekend of the firearms season.  Besides, Big Oaks won't let me use the RRA .458 SOCOM.  But my brother got drawn for their opening firearms hunt on Nov. 2nd.  We'll be there for that one.  I've got a little Remington 870 20 gauge smooth bore with a 20" RS barrel and a 2.5 scope.  That combo is just deadly out to about 60 yds.  Yes, I said 20 gauge.  I'm 63 and a lot less in love with recoil. then when I was younger.

No need to justify a 20 ga. They're nearly as effective as a 12, and often times better. They'll do just about everything the 12 will do, besides drive your shoulder into the next county.

Just got back from scouting my area at Newport. Man does it look good. I am excited for once about getting to go on a draw hunt.
